Champagne, Uncorked: The House of Krug and the Timeless Allure of the World’s Most Celebrated Drink

Valuable for a Krug Lover
A great overview of Champagne itself, the history, process, complexities, as well as the land and people. The best and most useful part of this book - for me - is the access that Mr. Tardi had to the team at Krug and their approach to making, in my opinion, some of the finest champagne in the world. This book helps a wonderful wine come alive. Mr. Tardi takes the reader to Champagne, into the tasting and blending process, into the cellars at Krug and makes the reading of this book 3% as pleasurable as drinking the cuvee itself. I enjoyed reading this book immensely.

Cheers to Champagne, Uncorked!
I so enjoyed this book! I'm a lover of Champagne, but one doesn't need to be to enjoy this story. The author does a lovely job of interweaving the history of the House of Krug and the entire Champagne region with his present day experiences of working on Krug's 2013 wines. He leads us through the entire process of making Champagne in a very informative AND entertaining style, so that this book reads like a novel. If you love history, you'll definitely enjoy this book. If you love wine and especially sparkling wine, this is a must read!

Loved this book!
As a student of wine I had read many times about the production process. But it wasn't until I read this book that it came to life for me. Mr Tardi took me through the process from harvest until the bottle is released into the world with extensive but always interesting&enlightening detail. And somehow he manages to include centuries of Champagne history too. Highly recommended.

Enjoy read and very informative about the history of the champagne region and the house of Krug. I like that the author gave a personal narrative throughout the book to make the textbooks like facts have more of a lively easy ready spirit. Worth the buy.

Read like a novel!
Loved this book! Read like a novel. History. Geography. And so much for the champagne lover. This formula worked for me. I can shop for champagne now and unlock the code words on labels to know what I'm buying. Can't wait to read this again on my flight to France!

Not just about Krug -- this is a history of Champagne (the wine and the region) from start to finish
I love a good nonfiction book about food or drink. And while Krug isn't my favorite champagne of all time, it IS delicious, so requesting this book was a no-brainer for me.This was much more than just a history of Krug champagne, however. It's really a history of the entire region, starting way back when the production was still wines with a slight tendency to fizz (i.e., before "champagne" qua champagne was "invented" or discovered). For those who may not know, Champagne is a region in France, which is why California wineries can't use that word on their labels, and have to market their bubbly as "sparkling wine" instead. The author does a nice job interweaving his personal experience interviewing and shadowing the chef de cave of Krug during the 2013 season with a fairly detailed history of Champagne, including its viticulture, the development of its traditional winemaking methods, important biological events, and the rises and falls of other major producers. All in all, it's a great book for those who don't know much about how champagne is produced or how it came to be. For those who already have a good foundation, there's not much new here -- a few tidbits about Krug's internal processes, and some interesting historical factoids. For instance, if you already know the difference between a vintage and a nonvintage champagne, are familiar with riddling, and know the three major grape varietals used in most champagne, you can take a pass. Otherwise, grab this book and study up -- there's plenty here to impress your friends with over your next bottle of bubbly.I received a copy of this ebook from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. Thanks!
