No you don't have to use the zipper, good job as it is stiff as hell - even with zip pullers.Only point to mark this down actually.Bought for confidential stuff - works fine.VERY robust, also bought their A5 of this type - just as good.I have been using their open top/side folders for a while - was happy with those so tried these based on brand - not disappointed.

Does the job
The cover is quite tough so will last but the zip doesn’t feel sturdy so you cannot fill the pockets with much more than paper. I wanted this to put clear crafting stamps in, and it does hold them but struggles with zipping.
