But instead, I decided to look a little closer about my purchase and re-read the product information in case I misused it or misunderstood its purpose.To be clear, here is how I give my ratings:5 stars - exceeds expectation4 stars - meets expectation3 stars - meets expectations but has some shortcomings or needs improvement2 stars - disappointment; consider other products1 star - not worth it.Circumstances that could change the number of stars (could go either way)- exaggerated claims- cost of the product- quality- manufacturer/seller response if contactedSo for me to give this product a 5-star rating, it must either exceed my expectation or just meet expectation plus some encouragement from the seller.Looking back at the product description, these are the claims: - "oven mitts" - "guarantees maximum protection for your hands" - "provides a strong grip"I brought these up because these are the ones I call into question.Imagine preparing to roast a large dish like a turkey or beef. You have it on the pan and ready to place in the oven. This is a fairly heavy item. Since it is still cold, you can pick it up either with your hands or by curling your fingers together as close to the palm almost making a fist. Using just the tips of your fingers will not be strong enough to lift the dish. After it cooks, do you think you can lift it out of the oven using these finger mitts? Most people's fingers are just not strong enough to pick a hot and heavy item. Plus, only the tips of your fingers are protected from the hot surfaces. The other half of your fingers and the rest of your hands are exposed. The product just does not offer enough protection.Bottom line: These are finger mitts, not hand mitts. To some people, it may be good enough. But to me, they are no more than a novelty. A toy. I don't find it a serious product at all. It offers no protection for the hands and it forces you to use only the tips of your fingers to lift heavy items.Instead of dropping it to 1-star, I decided to keep the 2-stars because the mats seem functional.

These are so washable! Quick in the sink, or even better in the dishwasher. I love the pads for hot pots on the counter. They also work wonderfully to hold a mixing bowl in place while beating ingredients; it stays put without being held by hand. The finger mitts work best on hot dishes with handles or at least a rim to grasp.

I have seen other people have these and I knew they would be nice to have. So we found these under the discount list and had to have them. They work great. It's really a lot easier to use the oven mitts since they are small, and made from Silicon. And they come with 2 hot pads.

Have used these at many temps and never feel the heat through them.

There are a few reasons I found why these silicon pot holders are better than traditional cloth pot holder, mitts, or gloves. First, this silicon is pretty thick and it does not transfer heat so even when handling the hottest objects, your fingers and hands will be well protected. With most traditional potholders, the heat will come through to your hands if you hold a very hot cooking dish or tray for more than a few seconds. Silicon also grips objects much better which helps when holding heavy pots or when only using one hand to pick something up. These silicon pot holders are also more durable and easier to clean and dry. Another nice thing about these pot holders, in particular, is that they can be put on and taken off quickly and easily using only one hand. This is really convenient when you are very busy in the kitchen or don't have both hands free.The two silicon place mats that come in this set are large enough to place large pots on top of them and they do a great job of protecting your counter and table surfaces from damaging heat and also prevent scratches and water stains on some surfaces. The place mats have raised notches on the top which allows moisture and water to settle off the bottom of the pot or plate and also increases air flow to help cooling. The potholders and the place mats have holes on them which allows them to be hung on hooks in your kitchen.The pot holders and the place mats can also be used to help open tight jar lids and bottle caps. The mini pot holders are great for opening small caps like on soda or ketchup bottles. The place mats work great for opening large twist off lids on jars. The silicon on these pot holders and place mats grip jar lids and bottle caps much better than your hands which might be wet or oily from cooking. This allows more force to be applied to the cap or lid with less effort from you. They also prevent you from hurting your hands if you really need to apply a lot of force to open a very stubborn lid or cap.
