Christine....my first love
Just like Arnie, Christine was my first love. Her name was Christine and she was two years older. Wait....let's talk about the book.Christine it's still my first love, because it was the first King novel i've read, twenty years ago. Saw the movie too, but i've read the book again lately.I think every young person should read this, and anyone who wants to remember their youth. It is after all a love story with a macabre twist. It's King after all. It's a great story, it's funny, i laughed so loud many times during my read, but it's definitely a page turner.I never understood why he changed voice in the second part, goes back to first person on the third part, but it's one of my fav King's novel. Definitely in my top 10.Give it a try.

Pure, classic King.
For my money Christine is Stephen King's best work. A ast-paced, believable and terrifying tale of "everyday evil" that like Pet Sematary brings the thing in the closet back from your childhood memories to just outside your "grownup" bedroom door.It IS still OUTSIDE that door. Isn't it? Do you get up and check or stay safe under the covers? Keep the door shut and keep it out or open it so it can't hide on the other side?Aw hell, nobody believes in that stuff anymore after they get out of high school and become "adults", do they?

Screams Classic King
One of my reading goals in 2022 is to read a classic king book between each read.I started the year off with Christine as a buddy read. For a long time, I avoided this one, thinking a horror novel about a car would just be cheesy.Man, was I wrong.I fell in love with these characters without trouble and quickly hated others. There is so much vintage King representation in these characters - protecting your friends (which reminded me of IT), bullies, and a lot of firsts (love, cars, and so on). But more than anything, Christine captures a classic King character quality of resiliency.Protagonist, Dennis, fights for his friend, Arnie's, life when Christine becomes hypnotic, rather, possessive.I saw Grady Hendrix mark this as a "junk book" from King, and I wholeheartedly disagree. If you love IT, you'll undoubtedly be on the opposing side of those who refer to the story as "bloated."Attend to recall Cujo here, where King gives the mailman a bit too much back story. But in Christine, when the characters are that good and the steaks are so high, I'm always happy to sit through a story that even King deems "full of self-indulgence."The story isn't literary gold, but it's got the same heart and hitching pace that makes me eager to read more from the King of storytelling.Next up is Salem's Lot

Reread this book from the 80's
I first read this book in the early 80's and liked it so I thought I would buy it again on Kindle. I don't know if they left a lot out of the original or not but I kept waiting for the good stuff to happen and it never came. I was kind of bored with the verbiage and found myself fast forwarding through paragraphs then pages. It was so long winded about trival BS. Anyway, I got through the book but just barely. That's more than I can say for Salems Lot which I read in the late 70's and to the best of my recollection was a fantastic book. The second go around was again very disappointing and I couldn't get but less than halfway through it and stopped I was so bored with it. Anyway, more on that when I review that disappointment. I read a lot of Stephen King books in that time frame and thought it time to reread them because I liked them so well at the time. I am now rethinking that decision for I don't want to waste anymore of my money on Kindle versions. I did but Cujo but I havn't read it yet. Keeping my figures crossed.

Not his best
I have read most of the earlier works and loved them but had skipped over this one and sadly I should have stayed away. This book is just not good as there is nothing even the least bit scary or even spooky about it. He starts the story from the friends perspective in first person then switch to a third person overview about third of the way through which makes it weird. The car is just not interesting, it revs the engine, it has a funky smell, the lights change colors and look like cat eyes, but none of this is scary more like Meh. The Shining gave me chills this just gave me the desire to put the book down and move on to something better.

Classic
Much more in depth then the movie (which I also liked and think should be re-made). Stephen King is money at settings, and mood. I have enjoyed so much of his work and it stays with you and re-appears at funny times. There is a swear word that the lead character calls people and I have to be careful not to start using it because it just seems so offensive but sometimes I'm thinking it.SK is also so good with phrases and he has a funny one in here that also cannot be said but it cracks me up.I almost started calling my car Christine but then a chill ran down my back.Anyhoo...I enjoyed the story.

Fueled by hate the Fury of 58
This is a great book. It’s perfect for people looking to dip their toe into Stephen King. It’s not crazy long or complicated. It’s got a lot of soul. And with a small cast of main characters King gets a chance to really develop them fully. After I read his books I feel as if I could answer on behalf of his characters. Because he fleshes them out so well. Christine herself is no more than a car. But King lets her live and breath on the pages. You won’t be disappointed and might shed a few tears along the way. Highly recommend

I prefer the film.
Reading Christine made me realise why I stopped reading Stephen King twenty odd years ago. I can't help it but I find his writing style annoying. Christine is about an evil car, who may be possessed by it's former owner and seems to have got a massive hold on it's new owner Arnie. King is a master writer and there are many excellent set pieces throughout. However for me the book is far too long. It clocks in at 722 page and could easily have been cut to 350. King goes off on tangents, digressions and fills in so many background details on the characters that are completely superfluous to the story and plot. This was the problem with both IT and The Tommyknockers.

Another great one from King once again.
I really liked this book. While the concept in itself is far fetched and (I think) would never happen, :) it was really well written. Desperately sad ending which almost made me cry, but I did struggle to cross a road for a while! King builds the horror and suspense up slowly but surely, until by the final showdown you're left in a state of pure dread. Some very gory death scenes too. I couldn't sleep the first night after I finished this!

It's really that good!
Yes it's dated in most of the book.. But wow, I never thought a SK book written 'a long time ago' could be so thoroughly enjoyable, relevant and page-turning... This is definitely a classic not fully publicised ... And 400+ pages too.

Hits top gear for the whole damn ride!
This was the first ever Stephen King novel I read over 35 years ago. It’s amazing how he can make a story so riveting about a car! But it really is a thrill ride, and it’s very cleverly written. The movie is also excellent and this is one Stephen King book that I highly recommend.

One of King's best.
I have read this book long ago, but I was yearning for some of Stephen King's earlier novels which were so much better than the newest ones - more believable. Well I know it's about a car doing its own thing, but nobody can put that down on paper like Stephen King. So yes - enjoyed it!!!
