Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork: Over 30 flower designs

This review is for Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork 2016 edition. Wonderful book by a wonderful artist. Van Niekirk is very thorough on the steps & supplies needed for completing the ribbon embroidery design on the cover. There is a full color reproduction of the base picture which you have permission to scan & print onto fabric yourself or take it to a copy shop and have them do the printing. The steps for each flower are explained fully & completely. She tells you exactly what ribbons & flosses she uses in the examples if you want to duplicate her work closely. Of course you can always improvise with whatever is available locally. You can even order the supplies as a kit from her website, tho the full kit is a bit pricey for me. I'm going the improv route and using what I have. In any case, the photography is great and just browsing all the ribbonwork is very inspiring. This is a talented lady that has put out some beautiful work.

There are so many great ideas here. The instructions are clear. The book arrived quickly and was in good condition.

I wish that the pictures were bigger to see the details. As a visual person I miss it. Good to get information by reading, not by the many small pictures, unfortunately.

There are diagrams of the stitches required, but I go to an online service to get instructions. Occasionally, a picture only shows a portion of what is needed to show whole.

I received the book about a month ago and have been gathering the materials for the projects. The instructions are clear and seem to be straightforward - I'll update as I actually do the embroidery. I'm looking forward to it!

what I expected.

This book explains the supplies, needles and cloth necessary for ribbon work. The cover picture is actually the sampler for the techniques described. No other designs are shown but anyone should be able to continue doing other work. The stump work is fascinating. I had never heard the term before but it is embroidery that is cut out and then attached where required.

Beautiful book with a wealth of ideas to use for your embroidery.

A great compilation of stitches and techniques. Would have like some examples that weren't flowers.
