A gem of a book for book lovers
Little known part of WW II wherein librarians of American Library in Paris demonstrated exemplary courage to go against the occupying Nazis and ensured steady supplies of books and journals first to the wounded, sick soldiers and then to other subscribers including those prohibited from using the library. At the same time,it is a story about friendship, family bonds and humanity. It will be a treasure trove for any book lover to go through this book and learn about an extraordinary librarian cum friend by the name of Odile Southey.

A great historical fiction
This book has told me why I read and love historical fiction. The dynamic of Love, Friendship and hardships during war was so beautifully explained in this book that I cannot even elaborate in words. How the life of both the main characters, Odile and Lily intertwine in America.Lily's characters learns so much from Odile's experiences, and also helps her with her lost love and letters she found in Odile's room. The story about knowing about the American Library in Paris, World War II situations during that times, these beautiful and well learned librarians whom we cannot thank enough!

A riveting story on how war desolated the lives it touched
Story has a certain meaning and a sound plot which makes it interesting. Many such stories of WW2 are there which shows the construct of human mindset, the state of guilt and how they felt they did so little despite the insurmountable odds stacked against them.

Oh, I took my sweet time to read this book and it was worth it!
Oh, I took my sweet time to read this book and it was worth it!The book is about two time period of two different individuals, one is Odile who is a Parisian who is obsessed with books and another one is Lily a lonely teenage of small town Montana. In 1939 when Odile was a librarian when a Nazi Invasion in Paris took place which was leading every library to be shut down but Odile and her fellow members pf library were keen to keep it open at any cost.In 1983, Lily is neighbour of Odile who is now confined to her home, bring her out of it and starts a new love of language and books. The book is not just about them. The book has so many characters with equally given importance and their stories are something worth reading. I was on the verge of crying at the end of the book. The book holds so much grievance and happiness at the same time. The war time made their world do 360° and so mine.Would highly, highly recommend this book to just everyone!

wonderful historical novel
Great storytelling based on actual people and events, written as characters you’d love to meet. A view of the hardships of Parisians during WWII, teaching valuable lessons of love and friendship that help an American teenager years later.

Very good
I read this book over a week. Didn’t want to read it too quickly so I could enjoy it and all the characters. It is about Odile based in Paris and in the future 1980’s in Montana. Well written, research is excellent. I read a lot of WW2 books and this is at the top of my list. Very enjoyable. Definitely recommend.

Totally phoney
This is the low quality equivalent of the series Emily in Paris .This novel is supposed to describe life in Paris during WW2 but it is full of inconsistencies and the style is very poor. Full of clichés like the smell of croissants which is supposed to pervade Paris. What a disappointment !

Sometimes heroes can be found in the quietest places.
