Malektronic Rocky Bluetooth Speaker - Red

Just received the speaker and tried it out with my iPhone 5. It seems to work fine, paired up quickly, charging it as I write this. However it is not as loud as I hoped. I'm using it for birdcall playback, not music listening, so the treble is really used hard and distorts a little at max volume. While somewhat louder than my phone, its is not $45 louder. Build quality appears to be fair. I totally disagree with the other reviewers glowing statements about the build quality. Wish I could compare the sound quality it to the JBL Micro wireless speaker. From what I've seen from JBL speaker, its fit and finish is much better than the Rocky's.A caveat, this is my first bluetooth speaker.**EDIT**Compared the Rocky to my old JLAB Miniblaster & iPod Nano 2G combo. The Miniblaster is now $25, think it was a bit more when I bought it years ago. They are roughly comparable in size although the Rocky is a touch larger. The Rocky is definitely louder. Getting it a full charge may of helped. Regarding my earlier build quality comments....its really hard to judge. The Rocky certainly seems more rugged since the exterior is mostly 1/16" (or so) aluminum and is relatively simple. Fit and finish of the JBL is much nicer, but durability is more important for my purpose. The Miniblaster is mostly plastic but held up well over the years. As always time will tell how durable the Rocky is. I added a star (3 to 4)

This speaker is really nice. At first when I plugged in, it didn't work. But then it needed to be charged :-) It works really well. The sound is pretty good for the size. I got the red one and it's a very nice color. I enjoy listening to my mp3 on my phone a little louder and this works great! Would recommend

I must have received a defective unit. The sound was crackly and wasn't any better than my computer for quality.

the USB 2.0 port broke off the third time I charged it and can not be repaired. That is basically the most used part on the appliance with the exception of the on-off switch.

great sound for such a small device

The sound is amazing, but the bluetooth does not seem to work for me, so I just use the direct cable. I also, when possible, keep it attached to a power source as it lasts about 3-4 hours and sometimes I use it longer than that.

It could be this was a defective unit, but there are other speakers to try. The housing also seems tinny.

This is my first bluetooth speaker. I was intimidated initially about bluetooth speakers in general due to the price and I felt that the technology was over my head. This speaker was just what I needed. It is so easy, it almost works itself. I hook it up to my phone with Pandora and it pumps music into my kitchen when I am cooking. I really love this speaker and would highly recommend it for the price and ease of use. Perfect.
