Biochemistry explained !
Easy to understand and clearly explained biochemical concepts make this book a must have for the study of biochemistry by undergraduates. It also includes case studies to help understand the application of buochemistry within the clinical setting. I used this book on my medical biochemistry course and scored well over 70%.

Unnecessary swipe at alternative medicine
I bought this book to update my older biochemistry coursework. It's sufficient to cover the subject appropriately. I did not appreciate the irrelevant bashing of alternative medicine in the intro chapter. The subject is irrelevant to the topics that are covered in the book, and the authors are ignorantly commenting. Mind-body medicine is accepted by Duke University Medical School, among others. The authors should refrain from commenting on what they know not. I was unable to reach the authors for this feedback and so I write here.

Well rounded book
Why should consuming fructose make you fatter beyond the calories you consume? Why do RBC lacking G6PD haemolyse on exposure to oxidative stress? Is there a tissue in the body even more vulnerable to lack of glucose than the brain? Why does 1 mole of glucose generate just 2 ATPs when glycloysed but fully 32 ATPs when put through the citric acid cycle?Harper's Biochemistry provides the answers. It's an engaging read, one I first read while I was in medical college many years ago, but it is still every bit as presentable and easy to leaf throgh, yet gripping. After every chapter you get the feeling that you have crossed a milestone- knowledge updated, one more jigsaw in place in your quest to understand how thinks really work.Reason for 4 stars rather than 5? The clinical scenarios' chapter seems contrived and oversimplified, with a whiff of falling flat in an effort to please too many masters. It certainly won't appeal to clinicians who would expect a lot more bang for their buck, but then one mustn't lose sight of the fact that this book is primarily aimed at medical students, who would do wonderfully well to digest it piece by engaging piece.

EXCELLENT
I asked for 2 day delivery on Tuesday and in hopes of getting my book on Friday. The seller shipped the book out to me that same day, and I got the book by Thursday afternoon (a day before the estimated delivery date). I had plenty of time to use it to study for a quiz that friday morning! It really made my grade and my day AND it was very well priced.
