Porsche 997 2004-2012: Porsche Excellence (Essential Companion)

Thoroughly Researched; Logically Arranged
Incredibly detailed text on the 997 model and the differences between models/years. As a 2012 997.2 Black Edition owner, would have liked to have seen more elaboration on this specific model, but all in all, an extremely well done effort. Highly recommend for the first-time 997 buyer/owner.

A mile wide but a foot deep and errors aplenty.
4.5.16 - While thoroughly comprehensive covering most nuances of the 997, there are errors all over this book. Measurement tables, images, image captions, typos... almost every other page has some sort of error. For example, the image attached to this review shows a page where the width is incorrect for the GTS model (it is identical to the C4/S/Turbo at 1852mm) and the image caption states the image is of a 997.2 when in fact the image is of a 991.1. And this is BASIC stuff! There is not one color image in the entire book. Moreover, colors are referred to in image captions but without a colored image the caption is useless. Explanations that could be easy to understand with an accompanying image are absent one. Vice versa, there are images with little or no explanation or context. It's actually very frustrating to read this because it seems so much effort was put forth in gathering the information. It's unfortunate because there is a wealth of knowledge presented. It is simply organized poorly and tragically edited. This book is not worth buying IMO.1.4.17 EDIT - I'm going to tack on another star here for 3/5. I've actually used this book quite a few times as a printed reference to verify/refute claims I have made and others have made in friendly conversation. Again, if you know the 997 inside and out you can get the bulk of the info you need and catch the few errors to correct on your own.

The Perfect companion to any 997 owner
The Perfect companion to any 997 owner, or in my case, potential owner. Lots of information on the model years and options that were available in those years. There is great insight into the different engine types between the First and Second generation, as well as discussion on the IMS and RMS issues. Great information for the DIY enthusiast on how to take care of the vehicle yourself if you have the skills.

This I should have read before the 1st 997!
Most of the information needed to buy, drive and service a 997 and get the most out of it. Should be mandatory for anyone thinking about buying a second hand 997 - all the specifications, technical updates, facelifts, pitfalls....read this and save $$$€€€!
