Chemical Demonstrations, Volume 5: A Handbook for Teachers of Chemistry (Volume 5)

Great book for the advanced hobby chemist.
If one looks for books with fine chemical experiments, this series of books is a great choice. Exactly enough theory to explain the nice experiments. A cheap but well equipped home laboratory, not an expensive professional one, gives you and your children (in my case grandchildren) the opportunity to be impressed and to learn a lot.The level is just fine for people with (nearly) a bachelor degree (e.g. chemistry, but also physics or biology or math). The only disadvantage is that there are five books - together a lot of money - but at the other hand: such a huge amount of fine demonstrations.

Excellent book !!
Excellent book, as usual, written by Dr. Shakashiri. We were waiting for this book since several years ago, to increase the series. It is a useful tool for teaching chemistry. Highly recommended for teachers not only in highschool but also in university. The quality of printing is superb !!

Terrific book, Awesome Series!
I purchased this book as a gift for a friend who is a high school science teacher. He absolutely loves Shakhashiri's Chemical Demonstrations series and now owns all 5 of the books which he utilizes often in his chemistry classes. Definitely a great book and a worthwhile purchase!

Confuses physics and chemistry
Starts with a very comprehensive (for a book of demontrations) overview of vision, colors, light, absorption, electromagnetic spectrum etc. The demonstrations themselves also has comprehensive explanations, something that other books on chemistry demonstrations often lacks. (Explanations tends to be just brief in other books.)There are plenty full-color illustrations. This also makes the instructions for the demos easier to understand. My only complaint is that many of the demos really are physic demos, not chemistry. By that I mean there are a lot of demos on how our perception work, visual illusions etc. That is interesting in itself of course, but isn't what I expected. I was thiking pherhaps more of the color changing reactions and things like that.Other than that, this volume follows the high quality of the rest of the series,

Chemical Demonstrations, Vol 5
This book is an excellent addition to the previous 4 volumes. It clarifies the spectrum and uses common items to show the spectrum of the visible light.
