The perfect handout tool
This is a wonderful tool that is perfect for my apple blueberry hand pies—it worked flawlessly. It’s made from a thick plastic with sturdy hinges, and cleans easily as my dough did not stick at all.I was on the fence because of a handful of negative reviews, but I always scrutinize these reviews to see if it may have been problems other than the product. So if I may, here’s a little advice:- Be sure your dough is on the dry side. I use Miyako‘s cashew butter instead of regular butter (because I like guilt-free hand pies), and I don’t use too much other liquid like water. The best dough for this device is one that’s rolled out on a well-floured board with a well-floured rolling pin. I had absolutely no problems with the dough sticking.- Be sure your dough is at least 1/4”. I don’t have a lot of experience with hand pies or folding devices, but I could see how thinner dough could potentially give problems.- Have a little bowl of water near, wet a fingertip, and run along the entire circumference before folding the device and pressing together. Again, I’m not a professional baker, but this is just common sense to help the dough stick together.I’m really tempted to buy another one but, well, I really don’t need more than one, and this one seems sturdy enough to last a while.

The pastry slips in the press
In theory this seems easy. But as soon as you put the filling into the pastry that is sitting on the pie crimper, it slips down and you lose the edges. I ended up just using the whipped raw egg on the edges of the half circle of pastry and using the tines of a fork to seal and it worked perfect. Shapes of finished pastry were not uniform, but it was faster than constantly readjusting the pastry in the press. Some may care about uniform appearance, but my family does not.

Great same size pies.
Great to create small hand pies. Very easy to use.

Too small & dough is hard to get out
The dough is hard to get out causing it to tear even if you spray something nonstick on it. Too small.

Easy to use, but doesn't work very well.
Tried to make apple turnovers and once I put the apples in and try to close it, the apples would burst out the back and get caught up. I kept reducing the amount of apples, but it was still too many. Once I finally got them to stay in, there were hardly any apples in it, which made the crust/apple ration off.
