Russian and English translation
The media could not be loaded. Great educational book in Russian and English plus how to pronounce in Russian with the different items in each page.It sorta seems a lot of info in one page for a child to read in a young age but a great way to start grabbing ideas to teach your child to understand and say the items in Russian and English. The pictures are great quality and everything is labeled in both languages and pronunciation! It makes it easy to read and fun to explore the different subjects!

Best if one parent already speaks Russian
This is for Edition 2.3 updated May 2021.It's overall a great book so I gave it 5 stars -- however, the parent/guardian should have a mastery of the language to properly guide pronunciation, as the transliterations are not sufficient for beginners. There are two issues that separate this book from proper beginner books:(1) There are no emphasis markings (ударение). For example, for "corn" it says кукуруза, not кукурýза... so unless you know it, you won't know how to say it.(2) The book omits the dots over the letter Ё, so every instance of the letter is represented as Е. This is common in everyday written Russian; it basically assumes you know it's a Ё (super-annoying for learners but that's another story). Proper learning books and dictionaries should never omit the dots. Unfortunately, the transliteration is letter-by-letter, so it represents the letter as the printed Е ("ye") not "yo." For example, the translation given for toothbrush is зубная щетка, not зубная щётка. Accordingly the transliteration says "shchetka," not "shchyotka."If you're already a Russian-speaking household and you want to give your kids a good bilingual book, it's great ... you'll read it without issues and the kids will get to associate the great illustrations with the words as you read them. If you as a parent/guardian are *not* already able to read Russian, this book doesn't give enough information to help you teach your child how to say the words.Minor correction: it gives ёж as porcupine -- correct translation is hedgehog.

Best out of the ones available
I ordered 3 books and only kept this one. I like that it has the English word and how to pronounce the word. But I will say if you don’t know Russian it’ll be hard to read the phonetics and get the word right. As others have mentioned, the phonetics don’t show where the stress in the words are.If you know Russian somewhat, it’s great for kids! I use it with my daughter. I will also say, there is one page that I don’t like. It is about seasons but shows items that goes with the seasons but no words are associated so I’ll have to write those in myself. For reference, I am first generation American so I learned Russian growing up but was born in America and my parents didn’t stress the Russian language so this is good for me to teach my daughter and learn/remember words for myself.

So happy I bought this!
My husband speaks Russian and I speak English with our girls. More than it being a GREAT book for the girls, it’s actually great for ME to learn more Russian ;)The words are spelled in both Russian & English but also phonetic Russian as well- helping me learn how to pronounce the words, so that if I want to say the name of something in either language (which I do often)- i can just read the words I dont already know! The book is categorized to many different categories so we can pick it up each time and learn something new (animals, shapes, colors, letters, fruits, vegetables, numbers, seasons, professions, transportation, things around the house, opposites- super useful categories!).I will say that some of the category titles aren't always translated into both languages (for example the title of letters is only in Russian, the title of animals as well, the content of the animal sounds is also only in Russian). All in all, this is a fantastic book!!

Thin pages
The book itself is good. Some pages are quite overloaded and too much for a toddler but that's not the main reason for the 4 stars. This book is targeted at toddlers and they are known to rip or try to eat the books. Hence most toddler books have thick, un-chewable pages. This book's pages are very thin, like a magazine and hence I don't expect for this book to last long. Also, I can't leave my child alone with this book, it needs to be supervised for the above mentioned reasons.Overall a good enough book and I like the topics being used but I think the format should be different as it's a young children's book.

Bilingual Russian toddler must have!
What a wonderful book for a bilingual child. We speak Russian to our daughter at home, however, in the daycare the staff mainly speaks English to kids, so I’ve noticed that my daughter started to be a bit confused about the fact that the same object is called differently. So having a book that covered all the necessary words for a toddler in both Russian and English is not only helpful but also very entertaining. The book is broken down into different sections such as alphabet, home animals, wild animals, shapes, colors, numbers and each word is written in two languages and has such a cute images to illustrate every word. My daughter recognises a lot of objects in the book and she just loves exploring it!

Excellent Resource for Older Kids Learning Russian!
I purchased "My First Russian Book" for my 9 and 7-year-old sons, and it's truly exceptional! Clearly crafted by an authentic Russian speaker, the book impeccably handles grammar, making it stand out as the top Russian children's book on Amazon. As my sons transitioned to school, maintaining their proficiency in Russian became a challenge. This beginner book is a perfect solution, tailored for their age group. It bridges the gap from their earlier fluency, providing a solid foundation for continued learning. Highly recommended for older kids picking up Russian again!
