Works great as long as the watermelon is firm. I first tried it on a watermelon that was a bit softer near the ends and thought I was doing something wrong since I wasn't getting full slices. I realized it was just an overripe watermelon (rawr). It's real handy at picnics when taking a big knife is not preferred. Kids love getting slices without the rind, like it's a special treat. I like that it is plastic as it is easy to clean and I don't have to worry about it rusting or tarnishing like the metal ones.
