DK Eyewitness Road Trips Great Britain (Travel Guide)

Love the maps, trip suggestions, driving directions, and recommendations for sites. Excellent photography. Driving is the best way to see Europe.

We are taking a two week road trip through England and Scotland and I could not get a lay of the land nor could I even remember the towns. This book sections off the areas and you begin to learn in small doses. It’s been a trip saver. We’ll take the book with us for night before we hit that area reading but at least we have an outline and hotels booked.

Okay, so I’m a travel nerd. But I don’t have the time or money to really do a lot of traveling. With DK’s awesome Road Trip books, I’ve developed a way to virtually visit lots of cool places. I find a road trip in the book, read the entry to get the full description and history of the place involved, then I go to YouTube and find videos of people driving in the area. This works amazingly well to make me feel like I’m actually there. I know it sounds corny and totally fake, but try it. I think you’ll be amazed. For instance, the first road trip in the Great Britain book is in Cornwall. I read the entry, then found a video of the 1st place visited – St. Ives. The 10 min clip was of someone driving along almost the exact path described in the book. When it was done, I felt like I had been there. Give it a shot! In terms of helping with actual trips, DK rocks. I fully expect it would be incredibly helpful for on-the-ground travelers.

All a bit general, and rather well-known points of interest, I thought. As a result, though this may be good for e.g. Americans who’ve done no research, it’s not really useful for anyone who already has some knowledge of the U.K.

Reading what other reviews have said, the point about it just being a lift from other DK books is valid if you have all the other books. Many people won't have all those books. This book is excellent as a starter for planning a range of trips around the UK.

I bought this for trips in my motorhome, even though it was smaller than I anticipated it’s a lovely book, quality feel and great content, I’d wholeheartedly recommend it!

This is a useful book for advance planning, with sufficient detail in a compact format. The content is largely a straightforward cut and paste from other DK titles, but is curated in a practical way for short day or weekend trips.Good quality paper and printing.

Some great routes and plenty of detail especially the road numbers. Very informative.
