Detailed 1/48 scale model kit of the Douglas SBD Dauntless, a carrier based dive-bomber of the United States Navy in World War II. The SBD Dauntless was the primary dive-bomber of the U.S. Navy until it was supplanted in part by the more advanced SB2C Helldiver. The most notable action involving the SBD Dauntless was in the Battle of the Coral Sea in early May 1942 when SBDs along with torpedo-bombers off the Carriers U.S.S. Enterprise and U.S.S Yorktown sank the Japanese aircraft carrier Shoho. Some 5,900 SBDs were produced in the Second World War, and SBDs remained in active service until the end of World War II.
