Amazing value! Change strings if using C6 tuning.
Wow. A P90 soap bar, adjustable bridge, good tuners, swamp ash body, Tele knobs and beautiful finish for this price is completely insane! If you’re a guitarist looking for a low risk entry into lap steel, this is it. The P90 can produce everything from clear, chimey tones to gutsy growl. The tone control, unlike many, is actually useful. Fit and finish is excellent. The legs are solid and the gig bag is surprisingly good. I rarely spend less than $1000 on a guitar, but am very happy with this. After hearing Joe Dochterman play Sleepwalk so beautifully on YouTube, I got his lessons on DVD along with this axe. Joe’s lap steel has a natural finish and seems to be the same instrument minus the sunburst. But this model, for some reason only Amazon will understand, costs $250 less. Go figure. Maybe it’s the tariffs kicking in; get yours while they last!Sleepwalk is played with the strings tuned to C6 (C E G A C E). While others claim to have tuned their instruments to C6, mine came with strings that looked like regular guitar strings. The 6th string in the C6 tuning is the same note as a regular guitar’s 5th string, 3rd fret. Tuning a fat E string up to that note would make it extremely tight and might break it.If you are planning on using the C6 tuning, expect to replace the strings. I found a nice set by Morrell on Amazon. It is very reasonably priced and has a wound G string (.024”) instead of a plain one, which some of us prefer.I did not check the intonation with the strings that shipped with the instrument. Of course, I had to adjust intonation after putting on the C6 strings. Joe Dochterman also has a YouTube vid that explains this well. Happily, once I got the two post screws set about right, most of the bridge saddles needed to be near the middle of their adjustment range to get good intonation. I’m satisfied for now, but may yet take it to a real luthier to get it done well.Meanwhile I am finding that this stays in tune very well. Nuff said, gotta get back to sleepwalking.

Great fit and finish
Great fit and finish. Must tune every time, sometimes half way through a session. Sustain is excellent. Tone through my Peavey Nashville 112 is excellent. Like string spacing. Intonation was spot on. Bridge overly complex...will make string changes unnecessarily difficult. Legs work fine. Terrific gig bag. Really love the guitar, especially at this price point. Play several times a day. Using mostly E7th. (Would like to get an 8 string console in C6th next, but am not crazy about the Rondo natural ash finish).Well done!

Nice Purchase
The SX6 String Ash Lap Steel is a nice instrument that is reasonably priced and I like that it has the option using the legs as a support. The instrument also has nice rich tone as well. I bought this instrument mainly because I was interested in getting back into playing the steel guitar, after many years of absence. The instrument comes in G tuning. The only thing that I changed was the strings. I had c6 tuning strings put on, mainly because it best suited for Hawaiian and Western Swing styles of music. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase.

Great beginner guitar.
I am really happy with this guitar. As a beginner, it has everything I need and is a good, solid, relatively inexpensive instrument to learn on.In addition, it has legs that you can attach to it so it can stand alone, and comes with a very nice soft case to travel with.

Seems to be quite a rugged instrument. I’m loving it.
First of all, I’m a bass and guitar player with no experience in lap steel whatsoever. I own a multitude of stringed instruments but did not own a lap steel. After researching for several weeks and reading endless reviews on many introductory makes and models I decided to order this one. I received mine in less time than expected and am very impressed with the quality of it for the price I paid. I feel that I will enjoy the learning process. One thing I read in the reviews was that the legs are hard to thread in and easily cross threaded. With this in mind I went at it with caution. Be nice to it and they thread in easily. Make sure you line the legs up at the proper angle. If you feel any resistance, stop, back it out and start over. I had no problem with this.It was not tuned but I expected that. I’m under the impression that the string set are EADGBE, but I tuned it to a C6 tuning and am pleased with the sound. I did order a set of C6 strings also and will try them out soon.I also ordered a short Lap Dawg slide not really knowing what I would like as far as feel and wish I would have ordered the longer one. I may return it and order the longer one if I can’t get used to it.All in all I’m very pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to anybody looking to get into an inexpensive instrument.I hope this review will help anybody looking to purchase this lap steel. It’s everything I hoped it would be.Thank you Rondo!

Really enjoying my new toy
Plays well, sounds nice. Only issue: I’m not experienced enough to guess what gauge strings were included, so I bought a set of new C6s rather than try to figure out what key it is intended to be tuned.

Plays nice and sounds good.
Perfect for a beginner to intermediate player. I think it's a great deal and it comes with a very well built case. The guitar has a decent finish, is very sturdy and stays in tune.

limited adjustments available
I like the fact that its sturdy , I like the look, don't like the fact that the strings are not level and there's no way to raise or lower the saddles to level the strings. Not crazy about the carrying case with the legs laying on top of the strings and tuners planning on getting a 36 inch tent bag and carry them seperately . Would I reccomend it for someone on a budget and or trying to learn, you bet, glad I got it, will be fun playing around with it
