The Mother of All Knife Blocks
If you have acquired a bevy of knives over the years as my wife and I have, this block from Wusthof fills the bill. We have several chef's knives that typically cannot be accommodated in more modest knife block configurations. Massive yet not so much if well positioned on a counter.Magnetic strips are very convenient, but over time we have come to find them less so, as once crowded, taking and replacing knives becomes a bit nerve wracking. Storing sheathed knives in a drawer is fine, but not as handy. The block is solidly built and beautifully finished. It has enough depth to accommodate the largest chef's knives.....I own an 8" Shun, an 8" Sabatier, a 10 inch Global , and .......... a 12" MAC. That behemoth fits quite nicely. The block also can house a pair of shears, steak knives, and can also accept Japanese Nigiri blades and/or a small cleaver. Very versatile piece of equipment. At first it seems like overkill...but if you have lots of knives it's a Godsend.

Still looking good
I bought this Wusthof 25 slot knife block back in January 2013; it’s been almost 5 years now and it still looks brand new, no cracks or splitting that I can see.It has a nice finish, plenty of useful knife slots, plus I like the fact that there is a slot for both a straight fork, and also a kitchen shears; in the previous blocks I’ve had, there was no fork slot.I included a photo taken from above to try to show the condition of the block, and how the knives fit in the different slots. To anyone interested in a nice meat cleaver that fits in this block… the meat cleaver in the photo (fourth down on the left) is a Zwilling Pro 6” meat cleaver bought here on Amazon. I think it fits right in with the Wusthof Classic knives. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L9Z6UAI/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_17?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3FGU2AO6681GH

Quality knife block with plenty of space
I needed to replace a 10 slot knife block because my knife collection has outgrown it. I was hesitant to purchase this sight unseen, but I am so glad I did. The color is nice, the block is very well made, and the slots are generously sized. The other key factor is size. I was worried this would overpower my countertop, but it is very well-designed and only has a slightly larger footprint. The order arrived very quickly and was well-packaged. I am very pleased with this purchase!

It is big and it works
A remodel of my kitchen left me with no place for the magnetic knife holders that I have used for years. Not having used a knife block before, I wasn't sure I could find one large enough for my blade collection. I picked this one from a large selection on Amazon and I find it perfectly satisfactory. The block is heavy because there is a lot of wood but it is no larger (and thus no heavier) than it needs to be. There are slots in multiple sizes and the depth of the top slots is adequate for my 12" knives. Only the cleaver slot is too short. Asian cleavers may fit within it; American cleavers will not.Fit and finish are excellent. All the joints are tight and the wood is smoothly sanded and finished for water resistance.I still long for my magnetic bars but this has proved to be a fine substitute. Those with lots of knives can order it with confidence.

Excellent Knife Block
Our knife collection finally grew beyond the capacity of the 19-slot Henckels block we've been using for the last 18 years. The criteria for the new one was to retain the 8 bottom-front steak knife slots and have room for the largest wide blade chef's knives (10 - 12 inches). This block does it all ... room for the Henckels cleaver, meat fork, sharpening rod and poultry shears too ... with 3 slots to spare as we add a couple of Japanese knives to the collection. The one shortcoming is that a 14 inch knife will be too long and would require a modification to raise the bottom of the block off the counter ... wouldn't be too difficult, but might detract from the good looks of this block. We looked at the 35-slot block and it wasn't clear from the pictures that the mix and orientation of the slots was as practical / flexible as this one. Note that the finish of the block is actually better than in the Amazon picture ... a little darker with more uniform finish and less-apparent joints where the separate block elements are glued together . Also, the box is labeled "Made in Solingen, Germany" although we were led to believe it would be made in China. IMO, this is a significant bonus. There are no markings / labels anywhere indicating that it was manufactured in China.

Just what I needed ----
I wanted to get a knife block that would hold all of my Wusthof knives, including the carving knife & fork. Most knife blocks by Wusthof do NOT hold the carving fork, but this one does. It's a large knife block, makes a statement on the counter, but after a couple months, it no longer seems overly large. I recommend the quality and workmanship.

Block Party!!
Functionality, practicality, & it serves the purpose oh so well. This beautiful cherry block is exactly what I needed to arrange all my knives & keep their edges sharp. I had no problem placing Global knives, Bokers, 2 damascus cleavers, & several other custom knives in the block. Every time I pass through the kitchen I glance over at the block & think why hadn't I made the decision to get it earlier. I did read the reviews before making a commitment to purchase this item. Before I arranged my knives, I took the block outside & blew out all the slots with a compressor. Some customers had sawdust trapped within the slots which I had absolutely no sawdust. Clean as a whistle...somehow a whistle seems to blur the accuracy of my analogy. This is a well-designed block, solid, & I have no qualms about it. Yes you may be hesitant in making a commitment when so many selections exist & everyone has a different need, but if you're shopping for ample storage say "Yes" & put a ring on this thing.

GREAT Block
Other knife blocks I have found just didn't have enough slots and I considered making one, but I'm NOT a Cabinet Maker! This product is well made and has plenty of spaces for my 27 knives with some left over (excuse to buy more!!!) $186 Canadian is steep but worth it to take care of good knives. The slots are all horizontal so the knives won't dull like most other blocks.

Not the Quality I hoped for
I am disappointed with this product. I had been searching for an appropriate block to house my collection of knives for a few months and this block seemed to be the only product large enough to accommodate my needs. To my chagrin, It appears to be several small pieces of wood laminated together rather than one sturdy chunk. There is a crack forming down the middle betraying a poor lamination job which makes the block look cheap and inexpensive which it wasn't. I bought this block as I am a Wusthof enthusiast to showcase my knives and this block did not meet the standard I was expecting. It get's 2 stars because it does the job; but it does the job ugly due to questionable manufacturing quality.
