Beautiful books
These books teach a lot, but the illustrations are wonderful. My grandkids love them. I read at least one of them a night to them. I bought every one in the series.

One of our favorites
Beautiful illustrations! My son is a year old and we read every night. This one has lovely, accurate pictures and I even learned some things I didn't know! It's on the long side so sometimes we skip around or only read half, but he is young enough that he doesn't mind. We are gradually collecting all of these books in the series.

I learned about this book on the AAAS 2016 best science books for kids list and it did not disappoint! Gorgeous and accurate artwork with beautiful depictions of developmental stages in beetles. My 18 month old loves it for the artwork now and I know will love it for the details as she grows up.

Science nonfiction
The pictures are fantastic. I will be adding it to my science shelf in my classroom this fall. I look forward to purchasing more books by this author.

Not as engaging
We own all of the books in the series. For some reason, this book is not as engaging and not asked for as much as the other books in the series. Maybe the kids just are more interested in nests and butterflies then beetles? I thought it was a wonderful book.

Stunning book
We've been collecting all of this series since discovering them last year. They are all really lovely and this one is no different. I knew this one would be a huge hit with my daughter as she has been fascinated by all the different types of beetles that exist since discovering the beetle page in our copy of A First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies. It was great timing for getting this book too. The day we first read it we'd found ladybird larvae in the garden, and there is a beautiful two page spread on the life cycle of the ladybird. It really tied into A’s current interest in metamorphosis too.We also really loved the page about how beetles can be both helpful or harmful. We've been talking about that a lot in relation to our vegetable garden. The book is just so visually stunning. The range of beetles in our world is just so varied, they are a great subject and something so relatable for kids as they can find amazing bright examples all around them. It's also lovely that of these books tell you the names of each of the subjects too, A always wants to know so it really feeds her curiosity.

Maravilloso, como toda la colección, que estamos a punto de completar. Las ilustraciones son preciosas. A mi hijo de tres años le gusta mirarlo y que se lo lea pero nunca ha sido su favorito
