Great Salesforce Data Architecture resource and reference library must-have!!

If you thought that Data Architecture on the Salesforce platform was just about SOQL queries, then this is the book for you. Not only does the book cover the technical aspects of the discipline of Data Architecture, such as SOQL queries, LDV (Large Data Volumes), and more, but also about what careers in this area might look like.It is a very comprehensive look at everything related to the role of Data Architect, and specifically around the Salesforce platform. It is written in a way that makes it easy to understand and can be used as both a general information guide, as well as a reference book on the many topic areas surrounding data on the Salesforce platform. For Architects, the review of techniques for data modeling were great, as well as the chapter on Master Data Management. and if you are a developer, there are some interesting “Do’s and Don’ts” on implementing a DML strategy. If you are an internal Admin, or a Consultant, the sections on Data Governance regulations are invaluable, and the recommendations on Data Backup are a “must-read”.So, whether you are interested in a career as a Data Architect, a Salesforce Architect, Developer, Consultant or Administrator, this is the book for you.Lastly, I would highly recommend it if you are considering sitting for the Data Architecture and Management Designer and/or the CTA exam, this is a must-have for your set of research, review, and reference material library.

An enjoyable read - a good supplement to Packt's Becoming a Salesforce Certified Technical Architect

Full Disclosure: Teny Thomas (Senior Marketing Coordinator at Packt Publishing) very graciously invited me to review this book before its publication date. This book is not intended to make you an expert SOQL programmer. However, It is focused on those concerns that are of primary interest for people that must perform data architecture management roles/functions. It is broad – and will help you develop your own personal roadmap for areas in which you may wish to develop more specialized knowledge. What I Particularly Liked About This Book:In general, the book makes few assumptions about your previous data architecture knowledge. The book is a good supplement to another Packt architecture book, “Becoming a Salesforce Certified Technical Architect”.Coverage of metrics and KPIs for data quality.Experienced Salesforce architects may find this book to be a useful recommendation for developers that are new to Salesforce. The discussion of the different types of architecture roles – as well the role and responsibilities of the data architect. The importance of not only technical skills – but also the soft skills (such as storytelling). The author has a particularly insightful perspective on the challenges of communication – and the importance of communication skills. The concepts and techniques of data modeling. The underlying implementation details of the Salesforce physical data infrastructure. The importance of data management (and its challenges) – and in particular, the concepts around data life cycles.Practical insights that the author covers (such as the “Do” and “Avoid” guidance notes – and the guidance on multiple triggers, on page-84).There are important practical insights – and suggestions – on backing-up your data. For those who are inexperienced in data management – and in particular, doing so with Salesforce - that guidance alone in Chapter-3 is worth the price of the book – as many Salesforce users have no doubt been severely burned by NOT following such advice.A full chapter dedicated to Master Data Management (MDM). For someone new to the topic of MDM - the author’s discussions on how to think about MDM is worth the price of the book alone.Chapter-5’s coverage of the Data Governance – and some of the important regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA – and the practical suggestions for establishing governance.I learned some new things in Chapter-6 (“Managing Performance”) that I was previously unfamiliar with – and this was perhaps the most interesting chapter for me, personally. For example, see the discussion of deleted records on page-242. Also note, the Further Reading suggestions at the end of this chapter.Chapter-7’s discussion on Large Volumes of Data – will probably be of interest to everyone that is involved in the data architecture of any large-scale usage of Salesforce – and in particular – the recommendations for Salesforce Connect usage, and SOQL best practices. If you have been mystified by just what “data architecture” entails – this book would also be a gentle introduction, regardless of whether you have any interest in Salesforce.

A must-have for your Salesforce career improvment!

I've found "Salesforce Data Architecture and Management: A pragmatic guide for aspiring Salesforce architects and developers to manage, govern, and secure their data effectively" a useful book for improving your skills in the Salesforce ecosystem: if you work on some different project in the IT consultant world, it's helpful to know how to assess the architecture environment and requirements, designing sound, scalable, and performant solutions. The book is well-written (the undersigned is a non-native speaker but I've found no difficulty in reading it) and it's divided into 3 different sections: Essentials (which covers the basis of Master Data Management), Data Governance (which covers the main principles of Data Governance) and Data Migration (which covers the best practices for managing migration and LDV orgs). If you want information about architecture frameworks, such as data sourcing, integration/movement, persistence, master data management, metadata management, semantic reconciliation, data governance, security, and delivery this is the right book for you and I really encourage you to buy it.Full disclosure: this review is based on the print version, which I received from the publisher in exchange for a review.

If you think salesforce data modeling is all about writing SOQL/SOSL and creating relationships then

Great book. So many topics covered that I've encountered over the last few years. This book contains a nice blend of data management concepts and pragmatic recommendations for professionals working with salesforce. The author, Ahsan Zafar, does a great job discussing the use cases, architecture, strengths, and tradeoffs of data architecture and data management specifically around salesforce platforms. If you think salesforce is all about writing SOQL/SOSL and creating relationships then this book is for you. This book is an easy read and covers the data modeling concepts for anyone to understand. Additionally, it provides different models of data architecture. This book would explain you the underlying implementation of salesforce data model plus talks about Large volume data.Lastly, the book talks about data backup which emphasises the need/importance of data backup and lays the foundation for you to fully understand the platform and it's capabilities. Finally, the book discusses data backup, emphasising the necessity of data backup and preparing the ground for you to fully understand the platform and its capabilities.
