Not anything like a recorder or NAF flute
This is my first Bansuri. At first impression, I thought it would not make a tone no matter what I did. Once I started getting tones, I thought it took too much wind and would wear me out. Then I thought it was out of tune. Then I discovered I was wrong on all counts.Apparently, the Bansuri is a totally different design concept that typical flutes which are tuned to make major and minor scales in sequence. On Bansuri, one actually starts playing the scale in the middle; three holes covered and three uncovered.A couple of weeks later, I still blow poor notes, with much effort, and can not blow the entire major scale. Thus have much to learn. This is exactly what I wanted! Thanks for making this flute available to me! Of course, over time, I will require one with a deeper tone.

Flute already started falling apart - will return
Right out of the packet the threads started coming off. Finish is not good, and there is some black powder all over in the packet. And, the blocker inside the bamboo is loose and moving, not sure if it is going to cause issues with tuning and playing. Similarly the playing is getting very difficult for some nodes. I am a beginner but I can see some issues. I think you get what you pay for. Please avoid this flute, and if you buy it, try and see if it works for you or not. If not, return it, which is what I am going to do now.

It's great for the price, actually playable and sounds pretty good
I wasn't expecting much, based on the low price, but it plays well and sounds pretty good. It was a gift to add to my daughter's instrument collection, she is graduating with her degree in music this year. Over the years we have invested a small fortune in her serious instruments (Saxophones and Oboes are not cheap apparently), it was nice to get her what I presumed would be a decorative piece only, then was surprised when she played it.Is it a little poor on some of the build quality? Yes, maybe. But it is $15 and sounds great if you know how to play. So, realistically, this was an awesome choice and she really likes it.

Looks cool and fun to mess with
Looks cool but some of the thread did start coming undone pretty quick. Also I can't really get much sound out of it, but that's because I suck at wind instruments.Wood quality is decent and I feel like its a pretty solid flute for the price.

Pretty good venu!
I'm not an expert by any means, but I've been playing flute for a few years, both the simple Irish flute and the metal Boehm flute, and I'm pretty sure this technically isn't actually a bansuri, it's a venu. The difference is in the number of holes. This has an extra hole which means that you can play more notes - that's always a good thing. I thought I was buying a bansuri, but I feel like I got something even better. I was able to play it immediately after picking it up, and it sounds nice. I've always wanted an Indian flute. And the key of G always sounded sweet and bright to me, which is why I bought this one. The notes sound in tune. The only criticism I can make is that the wood seems a little thin, so don't drop it. Also, the advertiser shouldn't advertise this as having a fipple, because it doesn't have one, it's a transverse flute. That just means you hold the flute sideways instead of straight down in front of you, and the thing you blow into is slightly different. Anyway, despite the low price, I'd say it's quite good.
