Q: Does it produce ozone or positive ions? If so to what extent? How loud is it?

Upon inspection (in an attempt to answer your question) I found my part was putting high voltage AC (with a light high pitched hiss) onto the positive input (red) wire. The output was electrically dead - so I can't properly answer your question.

Q: Can this be hooked up to a 120 volt outlet? Is there a site to show how to the technically clumsy?

It is designed to use +12V DC (you'll need a transformer). Attach the red wire to the positive lead of the transformer output. Hope your part works (I threw mine into the trash bin).

Q: Sticker (that was missing) suggests 35ma @ 12v, my unit draws ~5-6ma from 12v??? fluke dvm, impedance ~10m, measures ~600v??? where is 10kv???

Q: How can this negative ion generator “ reduce static electricity in stereo equipment” ??

I don’t know if it can. It is used mostly to ionize the air in a room and purify it. I use it for air purification in HVAC equipment.
