Dating Dr. Dil: A Novel
B**N
Strong female lead, romantic, funny & great!
This story had fake dating/ engagement, meddling family members, funny banter, strong female lead, highlighting important topics, little bit of spice, and romance. I had heard a lot about this book (and like usually I was late to the bandwagon) but better late than ever and I adored this book!Right away, I loved how Kareena was career oriented and always striving to do better in her life whether that was fixing up her late mother’s home/ car, doing her best at her job, she was a strong minded woman. Despite having accomplished some pretty big milestones, it seemed like nothing was ever “good enough” in the eyes of her family, unless she magically got engaged, got married, had kids then that would be the big stamp of approval. I feel like as someone who also grew up with immigrant parents, I always wanted to do the very best in everything because I wanted to make sure all my parents sacrifices would mean something, that I could show them the hard work was worth it. Like Kareena, it seemed no matter what, her family felt by being married then that would be better for her, find someone to settle down with, but Kareena wanted to marry for love, not for convenience. Kareena was a relatable character, one that I felt I could understood her point of view and at times I found myself thinking, “I WAS JUST THINKING THAT!” For example, “was it normal to want to cancel and go home and read?” AHH LITERALLY ME TOO! Just wanna stay home and read all day. In other words, if Kareena was a real person, I feel like we would be really great friends. In the midst of Kareena finding out her father was planning to sell their family home a.k.a. The home their late mother built from the ground up, Kareena was faced with the impossible (yet not entirely impossible) task to find, hopefully fall in love, and get engaged in order to buy the house from her father. As that was happening, we then got introduced to Prem Verma a.k.a. Dr. Dil. Perma was what every Desi auntie would consider perfect husband material for any daughter, and based on some information very early on, Prem was still dealing with the loss of someone very dear to him. Fast forward a bit later in the story and Prem and Kareena found themselves at the same restaurant and immediately after sharing a few drinks, having a long conversation, they proceeded to have a little make out session which then abruptly ended, and Kareena was left in an embarrassing situation.I thought it was kind of hilarious the way Prem and Kareena met again after the failed fiasco at the restaurant and ultimately ended in a big argument at the studio where Prem filmed his show, “Dr. Dil”, so much for a second impression. Left with no other option but to agree to fake date/ fake get engaged in order for Prem to get back his biggest investor and for Kareena to get the money needed in order to buy the house from her father, those two were in for a fun ride… more or less if they stopped arguing or throwing food across the kitchen. This story really showcased different things from growing up in a immigrant household, being the older sibling and trying to meet to expectations of parents, finding love, and more. Kareena was so relatable and I admired her, she definitely didn’t give up in her beliefs in lowering her expectations of settling for convenience. So much of Kareena’s backstory and her ideas truly resonated with me. The way Nisha wrote this book was not only sweet and funny, but also highlighted a variety of significant topics. This was truly an amazing story, and definitely a must read for any rom-com fan. The romance and spice was lovely *wink, wink, and of course the romantic gestures from the littlest things to the grandest that Prem did for Kareena was truly wonderful. This had a little bit of everything and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for the next book to come.

An unexpected romance
There are so many sub-themes in this live story that weave a very strong story. The first one that stands out to me is the struggle between traditional Indian expectations and being a successful professional woman. The second is the struggle for acceptance in a family. And, the final one is setting aside your fears to live your best life. Almost in between dodging fears and struggles despite everything love bloomed

Enemies to lovers
When Kareena discovers her failed hookup turns out to be the guy who says love isn’t real, she blows up on livestream for her sister’s YouTube channel. Not only does it go viral it also ruins both of their reputation. Yet there’s a plan to get everything back on track as long as they can work together. But what if he can’t give her what she needs? Here’s what I didn’t like: look every book is going to have typos. It just really bummed me out it was a simple then instead of than and calling bindu bindi. I think prem was too oblivious toward the end. Here’s what I liked: I devoured this book. It was easy to keep reading and I definitely want to eat everything that was mentioned in the book.(For everyone complaining about Charlie and claiming adults don’t name it. Lol lol lol they do. Get over it)Overall this was a fun read and I look for to vicariously eating food through Bunty in the next book.

Believable Characters and Sweet story.
I’ve been a fan of Nisha’s young adult novels so I thought I would get this adult one a try. As usual, she did a good job with the characters, the story was compelling, and the information about the intersection between Indian and American culture very interesting. I took off one star, though, because some of the sex scenes were just too out there for me.

Nice romance
Very enjoyable. I loved the romance. I loved the Indian culture. I didn’t enjoy that there were words I didn’t understand. I wish there was a translation log. Still recommend it. Great plot and spice.

Funny, witty, and gloriously spicy!
This quickly has secured a place amongst my favorite romcoms of the year! Fake dating, marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, and it even has a Taylor Swift playlist. Loved every minute of this!!!“She was thirty and single. No, no, thirty and successful. Thirty and financially independent. Thirty and . . . still lived with her dad and grandmother. And single. Very, very single.”“Difficult” is one way to describe Kareena Mann. She’s been told her standards are too high, her career should never be first, and even that she needs to change her wardrobe. She, however, would describe herself as someone who knows her worth - and that is my favorite description of all.Was he going to see Kareena Mann again? He hoped he did. Then he could strangle her.Dr. Prem Verma, aka TV personality ”Dr. Dil,” doesn’t believe love exists. But when he is presented with the possibility that he should get engaged to the same woman who almost tanked his reputation, he is faced with the fact that there may be more to relationships than just communication.”Love is an illusion that does not sustain long-term partnerships.”“I’d rather be alone and heartbroken then be with a man who could never love me.”This Taming of the Shrew inspired romance has it all. I loved the witty banter with all the aunties. Her immediate family was horrible at times and honestly in families that blatantly favor one child over another I can totally see how it would affect her in the ways it did. But there’s a family food fight that I could not stop laughing about and it takes it up to a whole new notch of hilarity!Female empowerment and cultural impacts are two big themes in this story. And while heavy, this book somehow managed to keep everything light and fun. Highly recommended. I couldn’t put it down!“For the women who have been told to lower their standards. I hope you never do.”

Loved it!
Okay, so I admit to having this on my TBR shelf a tad longer than I wanted, but finally got to read it, and I enjoyed it!Kareena is older than the average Single Indian Female and has a deadline looming. If she doesn't get engaged or married, she forfeits a chunk of money that would help her with her dream of buying a certain house.Prem is a cardiologist who might mend broken hearts but not emotionally broken ones. He has no belief in love, even though that's what his name stands for. He's about to lose grasp of an investor through an unfortunate incident that went viral, and his dreams of a special medical centre are fading.Of course, they meet/clash/whatever you call it.And they find themselves in a bit of a predicament, where they could use each other, only they appear to hate one another and have totally opposite views on love and marriage. But do they?Honestly, I love a book with South Asian characters. I love the whole familial dynamics at play, being able to recognise so many of the characteristics of different members of the extended family and the expectations put upon youngsters by the elders.Nisha Sharma has written a great story here with the Shakespearean classic, Taming of the Shrew, as the backbone of the story. There is much to love, a fantastic extended cast of characters, and the promise of more stories spun around the same faces you root for.Oh, and it is a bit steamy, too, if you catch my drift! If you can look beyond a rather funny nickname for a certain appendage, you will surely enjoy!

Super cute read
I liked a lot about this book, it was very interesting to read about South Asian families and I really enjoyed learning more about the culture. I liked the development between the two main characters and lemme tell you there is some good smut in this 😏 the only reason I didn't give it a five star is because of the sister 😂

The story line was good, I felt like it drag on for a bit. I liked kareenas character, prem was okay a bit too cheesy and unrealistic in some parts, I liked their chemistry together, overall it was a good book.
