Q: What are the diameters of the two sizes of the cage?

Large cage is approximately 23" high including hook by 10" diameter. Small cage is approximately 17" high including hook by 8" diameter.

Q: Will the smaller cage fit inside the larger cage?

I bought these for my daughter's hair salon. To the best of my recollection, there is a bird perch inside so you wouldn't be able to put one inside the other. She put a tiny string of lights in them and they look fabulous sitting on top of a tall cabinet.

Q: I am thinking about using the cage as a plant protector. Can the bottom be removed so to fit over the plant?

I use my cage as a plant protector. You can not open from the bottom but the top is hinged. I removed the "perch" with wire cutters and set my plant inside and closed and locked the top. I use a spouted watering can. I have a Devils Ivy growing and it looks nice with leaves coming through the side of the cage. I would not attempt to hang the cage due to thr weight of the potted plant but it looks nice sitting on a table.

Yes you can. I'm going to use it for mine. Congratulations.
