Just what i was looking for

For a number of year, I have had what is called misophonia, which generally means that I am often negatively triggered by certain loud or grating sounds. I can’t stand harsh noises, chairs being dragged on a hard floor, super loud music, loud talking, big crowds making noise. Any of this can distract to the point of not enjoying the moment at all. For a very long time, I have carried foam earplugs in my wallet for unexpected occasions in which I find that I have to endure these kinds of sounds. I will often put in just one earplug, keeping the other ear free to be able to listen to my companion but block out some of the other annoying sound.I was intrigued to try these “high fidelity” earplugs. I figured that they might be perfect for situations in which I still need to hear, like dinner in a noisy restaurant for example, but want to buffer some of the noise.I find that these earplugs are not that effective in my case. I have tried them repeatedly, and I find that they just don’t buffer the noise much. I have somewhat small ear canals, for which I usually wear the smallest size ear buds and they always fit well. Maybe these earplugs are just too big for me, even though I followed the directions of insertion to the letter. I did the clapping test, having one earplug in and one out, and didn’t hear a difference.I will continue to try these earplugs in different noise situations to see if the effectiveness is dependent on that, and report back. Meanwhile, I will probably use my foam earplugs.
