Best LED Tailgate Light Bar I've Owned Yet!
I've done my research on the multitudes of LED tailgate light bars on the market, and read that Rampage has overhauled their product to include newer SMD (Surface Mount Diode) LEDs contained in a completely waterproof encapsulated clear resin. The SMD LEDs have a wider viewing angle than the older original 3mm bulbous type LEDs, and they offer a slim profile. The Reverse/Backup Lights aren't nearly as bright as I'd hoped, but they do offer adequate auxiliary Backup Lighting in conjunction with the OEM backup lights. I opted to replace my OEM T15 Wedge backup bulbs with a new type of T15 CREE R5 LED bulb that works like a mini LED Projector lamp inside your stock reverse lamps. The color output of the new T15 CREE R5 LED matches the Rampage Reverse/Backup LED color fairly well, and now it's like having headlights in the rear when you're backing up. There is a tad more spacing between the SMD LEDs compared to the old original design (as pictured in the product description), but the LEDs seem brighter and more consistent in brightness across the bar compared to the older design. Just to be extra cautious, I used clear silicone sealant on the ends of the bars where the rubber caps and wires protrude. I'm sure the updated design is 100% waterproof as it looks to be much improved over the older types, but I'm not taking any chances this time. I've been through several rain storms so far and the Rampage LED Tailgate Light Bar is still working flawlessly. Other issues I've had previously with other brands of LED tailgate light bars was the wire connection at the trailer hitch harness. The older type would over time loose a solid connection or the contacts inside the wire harness connection would corrode to the point where they wouldn't provide a stable connection. This caused either one side or sometimes all of the LEDs to stop working. I would have to remove and reinstall the wire harness connection multiple times until it finally made a good electrical connection. With the new and improved Rampage LED Tailgate Light Bar, the connection felt more solid/secure and water resistant... only time will tell if it can continue to work without the contacts oxidizing. If it happens again with this product, I'll be hard wiring (soldering) the wires to the tailgate/hitch wire harness... I'd just rather avoid the hassle of rewiring a harness if I can in the first place. I already had to hard wire the LED bar reverse light wire since the standard wire harness connector doesn't include a reverse light connection (Not a big deal; you can't always expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter.) This product was installed on a 2012 Ford F-150, which has a non-flat surface in the crevasse between the rear bumper and the tailgate. I simply purchased a roll of (0.5inch wide) 3M 5lb double sided mounting tape and layered it up until it matched the thickness of the uneven mounting surfaces on the rear of the truck where the LED tailgate bar would go. This improved the number of mounting points to secure the LED tailgate light bar more than just using the supplied mounting tape and gap spacers. I'm sure you could just as easily find a way to screw the LED bar to the body of the truck, but I'm not about to promote body rust by putting holes through the sheet metal. To prevent water from weakening the 3M double sided 5lb mounting tape, I used clear silicone caulk to seal the top surfaces of the mounting tape where it meets the sheet metal of the truck and the back side of the LED tailgate light bar. This should ensure a long lifetime for the mounting tape. Overall, I'm satisfied with the Rampage LED Tailgate Light Bar, it's a well designed, clean looking product that can be even better with a little extra effort on the installation. It was shipped inside a plastic tube that was inside a paper-wad filled box for extra padding. No damage to the box or the inner plastic tube was noticed after shipping. The instructions were clear and easily understood, but the process is pretty self explanatory.

Failed right out of the package... BUT...
Well, after reading many negative reviews about this product, I made sure to immediately plug it in to my 4 pin hitch plug right after opening the package. Not surprisingly, half of the right side of the light bar was not working. The last 8 to 10 inches of the bar were out. honestly, I smacked the bar around a little bit and the part that was out begin working. I wasn't sure if I should send it back immediately but I was anxious to use it, so I decided to give it a try. I tried to repeat the malfunction by smacking the bar around some more, but those lights would not go out again. I could not get the malfunction to repeat itself, so I decided to use it anyway. Installation was easy, wiring was easy, and it looks great. So far, it is working perfectly. Also since reading previous reviews, I decided to supplement the water seal with clear silicone. I silicone each end and all along the length of the light bar top and bottom along the front of the bar above and below the light strip. To heavy rains and it is still working fine after about a week. Depending on the performance of this product, I may update this review. I gave 4 stars in this review only because of the initial failure of the product right out of the package.

Easy to install
The tail light bar was easy to install, it looks great and it just plain works. The only negative thing i have is that there should have been a mounting bolt hole on each end just in case you want to also bolt it to the vehicle instead of just relying upon the adhesive tape.

2015, update 3 yrs later 1/2 leds not working......Amazing Customer Service... Improved version is Great Product
Update : 2015, 3 years later . I noted several months ago that about 1/2 the leds no longer light up. They are in no specific outage pattern. I may buy another of same, not sure yet if I will, or buy the 30.00 flex one, led specs are the same.I had an issue, and I emailed them, they went above and beyond to resolve it quickly, and THEY DIDNT HAVE TO. IT WAS MY FAULT as I didnt even have the original one to send them back, and yet a replacement is being sent to me! I did learn that there was issues with these (see OLD reviews), BUT (see NEWER reviews) the light has been totally sealed and made quality and issues are now RARE. And the warranty is also NOW ONE YEAR. And I can attest that its great customer service, if you have that one in a ..... As I said, in MY case, my fault, wife threw it out, and they STILL are replacing it! Joanna, and Jake- Thank you (wife is now off the hook for throwing it out!). Amazing huh! Buy with confidence, they go above and beyond and the product is NOW quality and great price!!!

The product is good and is shipped in an excellent tube that protects it during transport.Everything you need for an installation is in the box except the converter required from a round (four or seven pin) plug to the four pin straight plug. Soled separately. The light illumination as depicted in the photo is a bit overstated and the bulbs are not under a long plastic cover, they are exposed.Backup lights is misleading, these are NOT ILLUMINATION lights, they are the same red lights used for brake and turn lights will light up as you back up. (only helpful if you may encounter cars coming at you while you are backing up.)For vehicles like the GMC Sierra, you will need to use the four spacers provided - the strip is about one inch too long to fit in the appropriate gap under the tailgate. I recommend that you mark the locations on the strip, attach the spacers to the strip, and then attach the strip to the vehicle. Getting the spacers mounted exactly straight and then attaching the strip is difficult and the adhesive is unforgiving.

Very disappointed
I have changed my review. I had purchased this light bar 2 years ago. I got a professional to wire it up with loom and heat shrink connectors etc... It looked great nice and bright and signals really shows up as well. Little more then a year the LEDS started to burn out, I seen vehicles around with other types of light bars which was a cheaper version that looked like crap and many was missing the LEDS. So I thought these sealed water tight light bar is much better then the cheaper ones. I guess I was wrong within 2 years most of the lights are burned out or so dim. I was so upset. I paid good money for these lights and installing also. I normally don't complain but I have old style light bulbs lasted longer then these so call LED light bar. I emailed to the provider and all they said was 1 year warranty. I wanted to give them a opportunity to at least give me some ideals how to fix it, or give some kind of discount or whatever?! So that's my story. I hope it helps your decision in purchasing it.

Well made and very effective
After 5 years of use, I finally had to make a small repair. The weather (road salt) got into the ground wire connection at the end of the light strip and corroded it. I repaired the break, covered it with lots of silicone and put it back on my truck. I do most of my driving at night and, without this light bar, small cars are always tailgating me. With the light bar, almost all vehicles following me stay further back. It is well worth the money.

Cleaning area at back under tailgate is a must do
Great product SO FAR. Easy to install. I removed tail gate first. Best to transfer a line from top of bumper to bed of truck.Draw a line with dry erase marker. Remove paperon the back of light bar then press bar onto line.Cheers

Product not as shown in photo.
This light bar is not as seen in picture. It is not a solid stream of lights. The red lights are spaced 2 at a time about 1.5" apart and the white reverse lights are in the 1.5" spaces. It functions as described but I was looking for a tailgate light bar that had a solid stream of lights across and this one does not. I guess I should have spent a bit more.Update: installed in August, 2015. It had burnt out LED's by October, 2015. I'll Repeat my statement above, Spend more money on a higher quality light bar.
