Another best in show
Susan Conant's mysteries use the talents of dogs to find their solutions. It's up to clueless humans to recognize what their canine partners have been trying to tell them all along.Ruffly Speaking is no exception. When Bedlington fancier Morris Lamb dies in his house, a toxicology report confirms he ate toxic greens with his fresh-picked salad. This is very unlike a meticulous man who is part-owner of a local coffeehouse and whose perfectly-prepared dogs regularly win conformance titles. It takes Holly Winter some time and behavioral observations to understand what really happened, including the involvement of a hearing-impaired neighbor. This is another canine whodunit that will keep you turning pages to find out - well - whodunit.

Good story, worth reading if a fan; however Holly digresses a bit much.
The story of Ruffly is quite informative and amazing. However our main person character, Holly, digresses quite a bit, which at times left things hard to follow. Still I recommend the story, fan of not, to those who love all dogs.

It's a nice light read
It's a nice light read. As usual for this author, the dogs are skillfully and lovingly woven into the story. Its a fun, relaxing, quick read. If you like the rest of the series, you will enjoy this one! This is a series that I would recommend reading in order if possible, you will understand this book as a stand-alone, but you will miss some of the back story on the characters and animals if you haven't read earlier installments.

another one of her best
I loved this one, the dogs, the new characters, Winer and Lamb, Rita and her psychological ponderings, the hearing dog Ruffly and her owner, and just the wealth of detail about all of them. this was a nicely constructed mystery, plenty of meaty characters, plenty of side plots, plenty of dogs to enjoy. If I were a dog, I'd beg for more like this one.

She's done it again!!!
Rowdy & Kimi are as always perfect. Holly and Leah make a wonderful team. I have meet a few children that are like Ivan... I love the fact that with each book in this series I have learned something new about dogs.

Dissapointing
I had read many of Susan Conant's books years ago and always enjoyed them. Although, I liked the info on hearing dogs, I found this story disjointed and rambling. I am going to try one more but then I'll give up if not back to some good storytelling with a plot.

It is very hard to follow the plots in Conant's ...
It is very hard to follow the plots in Conant's books. She often goes off on tangents about breeds and there are tons of acronyms. I just wish she'd stick to the storyline.
