Does the job
The product does soften old dey rubber. I used it on some WW2 era oxygen masks that were olive. The product left a white coating on the rubber which needed to be cleaned off. That required alcohol. Definitely use a mask and in a ventilated area!

Doesn't really work. Rubber hardens back up after a few days.
Doesn't really work. Rubber gets softer for a few days then hardens back up as bad as it was before use. If you have rubber sitting in any pools of liquid rubber renue it ruins the rubber and turns it into jello.

Well known butyl rubber softener
This product contains Xylene, Acetone, and Wintergreen Oil. The Xylene and Acetone "open the pores" of the rubber, allowing the oil in. You can soak rubber parts in this that are hard as a rock, and in a few hours, they will be soft again. If you forget, generally you are okay. Many reports online show people have left parts for weeks or months, and the rubber did not dissolve.Once the part is fully softened, it will be slightly swollen. Pull the part out of the solution, wipe it dry, and let it sit in a well ventillated area for a few hours. The solvent will evaporate, leaving the part in as good of a condition as possible, plus smelling kind of minty. If you part is cracked or torn, you can find this pretty easily once it's soft. if it's in good condition, then it's ready to install. If you're using this on installed weatherstripping, gaskets, etc, then you will likely need to use a brush to apply RR directly to the part several times over the course of a day or two.If you have access to bulk chemicals, then usually the acetone is not required. 70% xylene and 30% wintergreen is fine, as is 75/25 isopropanol/wintergreen. The risk of mixing your own is that you might not get the same quality. Isopropanol is usually water+isopropyl mix, and many wintergreen fragrance oils contain other oils or chemicals to make it cheaper, but which don't help rubber.Lastly, other solvents plus siloxanes can also do well, such as aerosol silicone oil. Some automotive chemicals can also swell/repair rubber seals and gaskets, but used incorrectly could also dissolve your rubber part.

It's not black
Worked on black plastic as cleaner. It is not black if you are looking for cosmetic but cleans rubber and plastic nicely..

If you have never tried Rubber Renew - It works like Magic on even older rubber . particularily on Auto Weather Stripping.
I received the Item at my Address within the estimated time that was given to me. Have not used the product from this shipment yet but have used the product prior which comes in the smaller quanity bottles. If same quality - it will be good as the product does do what the company says it does.Weather Stripping on my Van cost me $1020.00 to replace. Rubber renew would have saved me that cost. I use it on every vehicle (6) that I have once a year. Great for any area that uses rubber. Motor Home Slide seals etc./
