Needs 3 hands to operate properly, otherwise your items will spill - very floppy
Pros:- compact (can roll up and fit into a drawer)- silicone (inert, potentially less toxic than plastic)- holes seem small enough that rice does not go throughCons:- need 3 hands to operate properly (see below)- very floppy and flimsy- wet rice tends to stick to the surface when you try to pour it out3-handed operation. You need two hands to hold this container, because if you to hold the container with only 1 hand, one side of this container will flop over and spill the contents. So if you like to use another hand to rub off dirt or stir your contents while you are washing, it will not work for you. I lost a lot of rice trying to wash it in this container. It is too floppy and went inside-out while I was trying to wash the rice (holding the container with 1 hand and trying to stir and wash the rice with the other), spilling much of the rice into the sink. Perhaps if you only needed to wash a little bit of rice (half a cup?), you could support it with one hand without it spilling, but I couldn't say. Really wanted to like this item, due to silicone composition. I have used the Japanese plastic rice washer with better success, but would prefer not to use plastic. Maybe if they had a silicone-coated plastic rice washer. If anyone has better suggestions for plastic-free items to wash rice, would love to hear it.

how to best use it as a strainer?
I'm looking forward to learning how to use this best. It's very soft - sided and doesn't stay open (it's curled up). How do other people use it effectively as a strainer? Seems like it will be difficult without using it in a hard sided strainer. I'm not too keen on having to wash two things every time I want to strain small grained food such as rice and quinoa.

so it may be awesome for that
I haven't used it for rice yet, so it may be awesome for that. However, the ad said it makes a good cover for microwaving foods, so I was happy about that and figured I'd keep it in the micro. Well, I'm glad it's BPA-free, but it's so flimsy I have difficulty using it as a cover.

My New Rice Steamer Makes Me Happy
The products were received on time. The rice cooker was stainless steel inside. Which is just what I've been looking for. I believe Rice cooked in Stainless Steel is healthier for my family. My first batch of brown rice turned out perfect & the pot was easy to clean. I ordered a rice bowl to wash the rice . It made washing the rice faster and less messy than the way Iwas washing it. I also ordered extra rice paddles which are used to remove the rice and not scratch the pan. I am very excited to have my new rice steamer and would recommend it to anyone who loves perfect rice.

Works great when I made my favorite angel hair pasta
Works great when I made my favorite angel hair pasta. But it flops over unless I put a plate or bowl underneath. Other than that it's great for straning a few portions of fruits, veggies and pasta.

This is much smaller than I expected and some of the holes were not properly punched out of the silicone. Cheap quality, but still useable. Meh.

Great for Travelling, Students and Small Kitchens!
This space efficient drainer can stand and hold its shape for pouring out pasta and can be turned inside out for wringing or squeezing. My favorite part is bending the lip so whatever I am pouring goes where I want it to and not onto the countertop or the floor. This was a great purchase for me! Useful in all the ways a colander is and in those ways it should be i.e. storage and directed pouring.

It doesn't work as either a strainer or microwave cover....
Really? I paid $10.95 for a thin floppy piece of silicone? This can't be used as microwave cover because it is too small and floppy. Can't be used as a strainer without placing it in a bowl or somehow supporting the sides. the one I received is in a permanently "rolled up" condition. I'm not sure what you could do with it. I'm totally baffled by the 5 star ratings...
