Callanetics Extreme has most of the Super Callanetics (Callanetics 1980s advanced workout) exercises in it
I've done Callanetics on and off for 30 years. Callanetics Extreme has most of the Super Callanetics (Callanetics 1980s advanced workout) exercises in it. Missing, that I noticed on my first time doing this workout, are the standing hips and one of the parts of the advanced ab moves. I did not miss them. The pelvic curl done here has pulses in it at the bottom of the move. The next leg exercise is done legs turned out and opened wide, down slowly and deeply. The pelvic rotations are the advanced figure 8, not the regular ones.Lacy, the instructor, is very good and gives helpful form pointers. She comes off as genuine and caring. I do notice though that she says to do little pulses of 1/4 of an inch and she looks like she is moving 5 inches frequently. Callan herself was a stickler for small, tiny 1/4 inch movements. That is the only "fault" that I find with this (and the other new Callanetics Pure DVD).I find Callanetics Extreme more doable than Super Callanetics and more fun. There are Planks, side planks, push-ups and back-body push-ups also for upper body work. I will use this workout; Super Callanetics is good, and tough but less fun and rarely inspires me to actually do it.Also to note there is a member of the cast in here, and Callanetics Pure, that is also in Exhale's Core Fusion which uses similar barre/Lotte Berk inspired exercises. Her name is Karen and she looks fantastic; she's as in shape and as strong as the younger cast members. It appears consistent use of Callanetics/Lotte Berk type exercise really can keep one looking fabulous. Obviously I don't know what else she does but she is doing something right. Kudos to her, she is inspiring to me.

Nice form pointers and a great workout!
I bought this and the new Pure Callanetics at the same time, and have done them each once. I have almost all of the original Callanetics DVDs, but they just don't hold my attention long enough for me to want to do them. (I don't mean any disrespect to Callan since she's great and I know how many people love her workouts, but they don't have a "fun factor" to me.) These newer versions with instructor Lacey Kondi, though, are very good. I like her personality, and, while she does talk throughout the entire workout, her form pointers are very good and made me really focus. If you have to choose one, I'd say to get this one and not the Pure Callanetics since this one is almost the same routine, but with more exercises. (In fact, I did this one the day after I did Pure Callanetics, and thought I had put in the wrong DVD since, even though Lacey was wearing a different outfit, the first part of the workout is almost identical.)I also like how these two new workouts incorporate planks and push-ups into the standard Callanetics routine.Overall, I really like these, and the high-rep exercises are great if you're an hourglass shape.

Excelled my expectaions!
Thank you thank you! I've been doing the original callanetics since it first came out way back when. Ok so it was a little outdated with the music and the outfits but the excercises are such a testement to callan pinkney. They are the fasted way to get in shape and stay in shape.SO I was a little cautious about this new video but no need what-so-ever. I love it and am so happy it stays true to Callans tiny delicate motions and emphasis on the pelvis. Very well done - I love how things flow gently into the next routine. It was definetly worth the wait. I'm very impressed with the additional plank & push up exercise as well as the modified pelvic scoops WOW did that burn!! I really felt like this is the challenge I needed as I've been doing Super Callanetics for years now. So to hold both arms up in doing the behind and hips workouts...I actually have to build up to doing that! Its great. Well done for an excellent workout. I am currently doing both PURE and EXTREME just to change things up a little as there are some exercises in PURE that are not in Extreme!Still I LOVE THEM!!Here's to another 20 years!

Wonderful updated addition!
Wow! These new updated DVDs are absolutely perfect additions to the Callanetics library! I am huffing and puffing after finishing this Extreme version--sweaty too!Lacey is very motivating and creates a really wonderful team feeling. Planks, side planks and push-ups are new additions that you won't see in the original DVDs. I still love my 10 in 10 and Super Callanetics originals but you really must add this one and Pure Callanetics to your workout library! I am in my 60's and I've been doing Callanetics for many years---these will appeal to younger women and men, but also provide a fun new challenge for those of us who have been doing Callanetics for decades!

It's an updated version, but...
I am not crazy about the need to have pulsing noises going on all the time. I tend to lower the sound as I find it to be distracting. I am old school Callanetics, from the 80's and appreciate the lower, quieter music, as cheesy as it was. It was soothing to me. I was drawn to Callanetics in the first place because of the frantic, fast paced aerobics at the time. I wanted to practice more Yoga and still get the lifting and muscle tightening that Callanetics offered. Both Callan and Sandra have soothing voices that encourage safe work outs. Granted, you get done with the program faster with this updated version, but I miss the softer side of the older programs.

New Favorite
Today was my first day doing this workout. It does have similarities to Super Callanetics, but with enough differences where it does not feel like the two are the same to me. I love the upper body work (planks and pushups, with some variations), as well as the pulses during the standing leg work and pelvic scoops. The workout is a little over an hour, but the time went pretty quickly for me. Definitely one I will do again and again!

Mumbles
The exercises are great, but the instructor's voice is difficult to understand. She mumbles her way through the video. I gave it 4 stars because of the quality of the work-out. Having done the old Callanetics routine, I know this is an effective way to shape your body.

It's good
I bought this and the Callanetics Pure. Both are good but I prefer the Extreme, it is harder seems to 'dig deeper in the muscles. That being said, it is hard on the knees. Someone with knee problems probably shouldn't do these workouts or at least should find some modified versions of the movements. Overall, I like this workout and will be doing it at least once a week along with other workout DVD's I have.

Great workout
I have done Callanetics for years on and off. This dvd just takes it a bit further and it hurts,! Great results in just a month after doing 4 times a week. Great instruction all the way through as well.

Great DVD really excellent instructor
Fab DVD, Lacey Kondi really puts you through a great hour, explaining positioning yourself if your not quite at that level, which I found really helpful. Each time feels life a fresh class she just has a great way of making you feel like you are there with her.

Excellent. A bit harder than the original and i'm sure she doesn't count properly but I'm too busy trying to remember to breath and letting my "legs float like feathers" yeah right to actually care. Recommend it.
