Very Nice
Very nice chest. The build quality is excellent and it is a great looking chest. I'm not sure though if you would use it as a tool chest or more as an organizer. What keeps it from being 5 stars in my opinion is the price. It seems a bit steep for what you get but overall I do like it.The lid is spring loaded -- meaning it will pop open when you unlatch it. The information that came with this chest recommend holding the lid down as you unlatch it as to not cause damage. The front panel will not open when the lid is latched shut (the mechanism which "locks" the front panel is spring loaded and is what will cause the lid to pop open). As you can see from the photos the front lid opens to reveal many drawers. The drawers are not of uniform height. The bottom drawers are taller than the shorter width drawers in the middle. The one exception is the tall middle center drawer. The top compartment has a decent amount of space and is also the tallest container.Anyway, its a good chest, not too heavy. The price would be my only complaint.

Disappointed
I purchased this box to house a knife collection and some other collectables that belonged to my late father. After considerable research, I purchased the Gerstner 530 Red Oak 8 drawer tool chest. While this is a nice box, I was disappointed. The box is made in China out of plywood with a red oak veneer. It looks nice, but when opening the drawers they feel light weight. The drawers do not open smoothly and wobble. I prefer things that are solid and fill heavy, and this is not what I expected for $300. With solid red oak materials, this product could be much better.

Gerstener box
Nice item that was purchaed for the wife. Typical Chinese construction that was evident as the construction tolerances were not as tight as the American unit. It will do the job and no tears will be shed for the first dings.

Great chest at a great price.
This chest was advertised as used but we were very pleased with the great condition it was in (only found one small scratch). My wife has been wanting a chest like this to store her costume jewelry in since she saw the tool chest I bought for my wood working tools. This chest is well built. The only thing she did not like was the key for the lock was not with the chest.

I guess it's a Gerstner
I just completed a Machine Technology program and my family wanted to give me a tool chest as a gift. I don't think they were aware that Gerstner International is not the same quality as Gerstner in Dayton OH and this isn't really spelled out anywhere in this item description. In my opinion this tool chest isn't worth the money that they are charging, I would say it is maybe worth $150.00 at most. Having said that, it is a pretty box, although there is an awful lot of plywood used in the construction. The drawer bottoms are stapled to the backs. The fit is okay but the drawers are quite sloppy. The hardware used is on the cheap side as well, especially the two smaller clasps for the top of the chest. I feel that even though it is made in China, Gerstner could have put a little more effort into the design and construction to make things a little tighter and a little better quality. I would not have bought this box for myself, but I will keep it because it was a well intentioned gift. I understand that Gerstner is trying to be competitive with the overseas market, but even then they should pay a little more attention to detail and while this chest might not be a true Gerstner, it could be a heck of a lot closer to one than it is!!3/20/13 I have been using this box everyday now for about 3 months, I work in the inspection dept in a machine shop, while my box doesn't get the abuse that it might if I were out on the floor, it has held up nicely so far, and I have had several compliments regarding it, my only real issue is that the first full width drawer is so shallow it is almost unusable, I can't even put a digital mic in it, but it works for rulers and picks and things like that. It is an awfully pretty box, so for that and it's durability so far I am upping my review from 3 stars to 4 stars, if you are looking for a nice box and don't plan on abusing it, this will do the trick, although I still think it was a little on the expensive side!!9/24/13 Third and final update!!! After 9 months of daily use, the box is holding it own. However there is quite a bit of wear on the sides of the cabinet where the drawers slide out, to be expected, I guess but eventually will need some sort of refinishing, so the wood is protected. I have decided that I really don't like the spring loaded top, I have to hold it down when unlatching, so this is a two handed operation, which can be a hassle if I don't have 2 hands ready at the moment I need to get into my box. The lock on this is horrible, not only do I have to insert the key just so and apply pressure just so to get it to unlock, the lock as a security feature is useless. I forgot my key one day and was trying to figure out what to do about it, when it occurred to me to just unscrew the screws holding the lock on the box. They are exposed and as I found out very short, I used the screw driver on my keychain for the job and was into my box about as quickly as if I had the key and at the end of the day I screwed the lock back on as if nothing had happened. Thankfully I work in a small shop and can trust my co-workers, but this is not the lock to trust to protect several hundred dollars worth the tools, jewelry or anything else you might want to keep locked up. I just about have this box filled up and when it gets to the point that I need more room, I will be looking for a different box and Gerstner, International or not, will not be in the running! As I stated above I realise they cut some corners with their International line to be competitive, but I think they have cut to many in this case and have soured me on the whole Gerstner product line.
