If you have an interest in regional Indian cooking, this is a gem!

The book is nostalgic with the font in cursive writing and made to look like an old notebook where family recipes were meticulously recorded. Exactly what one expects of Sabita Radhakrishna. A few of the recipes are repeated from her Aharam book previously published. Otherwise, worth every cent for its authentic inclusion of classic recipes.

This book is authentic, almost too much so. Many ingredients are listed by their Tamil names but the glossary is alphabetized by English. So you have to look through a couple of pages to find the ingredient and then see what it’s called in English. The author uses “poppy seeds” in several recipes but doesn’t explain that Tamil cooking uses white poppy seeds, not black ones. It will be challenging to find some of the ingredients outside of large metropolitan areas as well; I don’t think I’ve ever seen tamarind paste or curry leaves in Kroger. On the plus side, I really like the feel of the book- it’s kind of like a handwritten family heirloom. However, if you are inexperienced with cooking Indian food, this book will probably frustrate you.

For this review, less words is more. This is all I am going to type. Piggy-backing off the success of 2002's "Aharam," Sabita Radhakrishna-ji has done it again. I have *lots* of specifical regional cookery books of India and this truly stands out with exceptional graphical stylings and typography.Yes—it is true about the "handwritten font" to mimic the look and feel of a family heirloom recipe book being passed down to the newer generation.Amazon being Amazon, if you don't like the book, Amazon is excellent with customer service and easy/hassle-free returns. During the month of January 2023, I've purchased several books and decided to return almost half of my purchases on the same day of arrival. Amazon gave me full and complete refunds.I am beyond enthralled to flip and read through cover-to-cover and try out these recipes from various communities of Tamil Nadu.
