Space saver!
I love how sleek this magnetic strip is! It works wonderfully in my small kitchen, helping me declutter by replacing a traditional knife block. As for installation, it doesn't get much simpler. This magnet attaches directly to your refrigerator, or, if you'd prefer, you can mount it to your wall. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to save space or those with limited countertop and drawer space.

Very Powerful Magnets! May Not Be for Everyone
In concept, it seemed like a good product to keep my expensive kitchen knives organized safely and securely. But I ended up returning the product for the following reasons:1. Not ideal for long blades. The magnets on this strip is VERY STRONG. So strong, in fact, that it's rather difficult to remove a knife by the handle without pivoting the knife at the contact point (between the blade and the strip). For long blades, this usually means the tip of the blade will end up touching/scratching the wall to which the magnetic strip is attached. I don't want to end up with scratch marks on my refrigerator everytime I detach a long kitchen knife, not to mention I am not too keen about the tip of my expensive knives (some costing almost a thousand dollars each) making contact with anything other than food and cutting board.2. It's possible to damage delicate blades if not attached carefully. When attaching a blade, I needed to make a conscientious effort to tilt the blade in such a way that the spine of the blade makes contact with the strip first. If the blade-side were to make contact first, the strength of the magnet causes the blade edge to slam on to the stainless steel strip and runs the risk of damaging the blade.3. It's possible to damage delicate blades if not detached carefully. To detach a blade, I needed to grab a knife by the handle and pivot the blade about the spine so that the blade-side lifts first before pulling the knife away from the strip.Very powerful magnets! Sounded great in theory, but this was one of those Try-It-Before-You-Buy. The act of stowing/retrieving (without damaging the blade) required too much conscientious effort on my part to consider this product as a useful kitchen tool. If you have cheap knives and aren't bothered by the possibility of damaging your knives, then this product might be for you. But for someone like me who owns several expensive Japanese knives and very protective of my blades, this product is a deal breaker.

Strong Magnet!
I purchased this to free up some counter space. After reading some of the reviews I was a bit hesitant but this magnet is ssoo strong. The size is perfect to hold a complete set of knives and the sharpener.I placed it on the side of the fridge and placed one knife on to test the stability. I continued to add knives one by one to make sure the strip would hold on the refrigerator and it is doing the job. We’re three weeks in and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. The placement is convenient, it’s freed up some space, and it is aesthetically pleasing.

Works directly on the fridge - with a modification
I purchased this particular knife holder because of pretty good ratings, and I wanted a holder that could be mounted it directly onto the side of the fridge. I followed the printed instructions to remove the plastic backing and I am glad I did, because the metal backing indeed snaps very firmly into place and yes, I can see how you can pinch your fingers pretty badly. Didn't happen to me, thankfully; however, the holder did not stick to the fridge! Stumbled, I reread the instructions to see if I missed anything about putting the metal backing on one way or another, but no, nothing about that. I decided to experiment before sending the holder back.First, I carefully pried off the metal backing using the box cutter knife, and once I got enough space between the backing and the magnets, I inserted a butter knife in between (while the box cutter blade was still prying the two pieces apart) and used the butter knife as a lever to separate the backing from the magnet, and I just let the backing fall onto the kitchen counter. Then, I flipped the backing over and carefully re-positioned the backing onto the magnets to place the holder on the fridge.Flipping the metal backing over did not work, though. Disappointed, I then went on to see if the holder would stick to the fridge using the "front" side of it, and man, did it stick! I was not very happy that the "back" side would be facing out, including the 2 mounting holes in the backing for the wall hardware, but said, OK, whatever, the holes will be covered with the knives anyway. Unfortunately, the knives would not stick to the backing. Some smaller knives did, but they were not being firmly held in place and I could see knives falling off of the holder at the most unfortunate moments.I was about ready to pack the whole dang thing back and send it to Amazon, but I said, what the heck, let's try the holder without the backing. Repeated the whole box cutter and the butter knife operation (it felt like an operation, because I had to be very precise and careful while separating the two pieces!) to separate the backing from the magnet yet again, and without much hope, I brought the holder up to the side of the fridge, with the uncovered back facing the fridge. And the holder was almost ripped out of my hands; it stuck to the side of my fridge with that much force! Wow!The final test was to place the knives on the holder. I have a red Fiesta set of knives with not the lightest handles, and all of the knives stuck very firmly to the holder. If I REALLY want to, I could fit in a few more knives (much cheaper ones, with lightweight black plastic handles, facing upwards), but that would make the holder quite crowded, so I don't think I'll go that route. I wish for a longer holder in general, but this one is just long enough to fit on the side of my fridge and the cabinets don't get in the way (can't pull the fridge out more due to the laundry area door right on the other side of the fridge, and pulling the fridge out more would prevent the laundry area doors from opening). I suppose a longer holder could fit if I placed it lower than the bottom edge of the kitchen cabinets, so that's something to keep in mind, but I like this holder where it is. Glad I experimented with the backing before sending the whole thing back! After this experience, I reread some of the reviews, and a few reviews say the same thing about removing the backing altogether, so try that before giving up!Overall, after I was able to mount the holder on the side of my fridge, I am very happy with the holder and would recommend it to others. However, the instructions (or lack thereof) could have been more specific to include a blurb about installing the holder without the backing on your fridge, in case the backing does not stick. Knocking one star down for the instructions, but the product works fine once mounted.

Great magnet
It's such a strong magnet it's hard to remove! But my knives are secure on the magnet on the fridge. When I first put it up I was surprised how strong it was and it ended up too low. I then had to move it higher which was hard. The main thing is that the knives are securely on the magnet!
