Dr. Ph. Martin'sHydrus Fine Art Watercolor (Set 3) Watercolor Set, 1.0 oz, Set 3 Colors, 1 Set of 12 Bottles

I love these watercolors, they have an excellent variety of colors and comes in 3 different color sets. I purchased all 3 and purchase was based on YouTube Artist: Ellen Crimi-Trent's (@ellencrimitrent) recommendation. I have not been disappointed. Using to color create my own version of "wrapping paper" for the most special of occasions and it has worked out wonderfully.

I am in love with these watercolors. Different experience from even the professional level watercolors, they are vivid and easy to work. All you need is a drop of color, which last for a while, they are easy to mix together, fun to use, spectacular results even if you are a beginner. I know from experience that beginners buy cheaper paints and paper, don't, not with watercolor. these paints had been recommended to me by a teacher that was in love with liquid watercolors, i hesitated until i tried them for the first time.I ordered all of them, total of 36 colors in the Hydrus version, note that Hydrus lightfastness makes them last the same way over time without fading. Yes, they can be on the expensive side, but you will have them for a long time, they mix well with the other watercolors and will make your experience really outstanding. Either 0.5 oz or 1 oz they are great, i have both, the smaller bottles easier to carry if you feel like using them when you are away, although i will recommend a travel kit by Cotman or Koi will be really making painting outside a breeze.Conclusion: Dr. Ph. Martin's liquid watercolor are above my expectations, my most brilliant and easy to work with watercolors ( and I have a lot of brands) I recommend these watercolors to beginners as well as seasoned watercolorist, they are truly a MUST HAVE!

The dropper in one of the bottles of ink was not working. I emailed Dr. Ph. Martin and received a response just a couple hours later. They immediately sent out a new dropper, with spares, that very day. I very much appreciate the quick and excellent customer service I received. Of course, I love this ink and all the colors, and I love that the colors are all compatible. Thanks Dr. Ph. Martin!

These are the best watercolors I've ever used, hands down. They're highly pigmented and concentrated, so the price is pretty justified because you literally only need 2-3 drops per project. I use them primarily for illustration and handlettering projects. The only draw back I've found is that the array of colors is not super wide, so you do need to be pretty adept at mixing colors in order to not waste paint. You also need to rinse your brush pretty thoroughly between colors because they're so pigmented it is easy to accidentally contaminate other colors.Overall: high quality, excellent pigmentation, if you haven't tried liquid watercolors, I strongly suggest you try these!

I now own set one and set two of the three 12 tint sets. Separately I purchased a few colors to add hues I needed. The vibrant colors (consistent from order to order) and the precision of adding tint a drop at a time, enable color control I could not achieve before (especially on larger works). Additionally their customer care people are very good should you need assistance with an order.

I bought all three sets of the Hydrus watercolors plus the iridescent calligraphy inks and love them all. They are super vibrant, a little goes a long way, and it’s nice being able to consistently mix colors by the drop. I’m excited to experiment more as I paint! The attached picture of swatches were diluted with equal parts liquid watercolor and water then applied to wet paper, still pretty bright.

Powerful concentrated watercolors! A few drops go a long way! I have all three sets. Still getting use to using them, but having loads of fun!

Wunderschöne leuchtende Farben. Ich bin begeistert, wie hoch pigmentiert diese Farben sind! Bis auf die Erdtöne lassen sich alle Farben unglaublich gleichmäßig verteilen, die Erdtöne selbst ergeben eine interessante Textur beim Trocknen, die sich perfekt für das Malen von Sand oder Holzmaserungen eignet. Und man braucht unglaublich wenig Farbe für ein Bild! Sie halten so lange. Bin begeistert.

Kommen wir mal gleich zum Hauptproblem mit dieser Hydrus-Set (Set 3) und weshalb ich nur 3 Sterne vergebe. Zwei Farben, nämlich "Raw Sienna" und "Red Iron Oxide" sind unbrauchbar. Die Pigmente sind nicht richtig mit das Bindemittel verrieben (oder vielleicht fehlt das Bindemittel sogar ganz). Das Ergebnis ist eine kaum wasserlösliche Papp der sich wie Sand vermalen lässt und getrocknet auch entsprechend ausseht. Dieses Problem ist bei Dr. Ph. Martin's leider nicht neu, und wenn man mal ein wenig sucht findet man mehrere Berichte hierzu. Gerade bei Erdtöne hat der liebe Dr. offensichtlich Probleme. Leider habe ich es zu spät entdeckt.Zum Hydrus allgemein bin ich eigentlich recht positiv gestimmt. Die Farben sind schön, transparent, und lassen sich auch gut mischen und vermalen. Nur ein paar Tröpfchen reichen für recht große Flächen. Die Farben sind mit eine Pipette im Deckel leicht dosierbar, was beim Mischen von neue Farbtöne sehr hilfreich ist. Die verwendete Pigmente sind in Ordnung (Lichtechtheit ASTM I oder II). Man soll unbedingt die Fläschchen vor gebrauch sehr gut schütteln. Hydrus ist, anders als Radiant, Pigment-basiert und die Pigmente können sich unten im Behälter sammeln. Auf eine Palette Getrocknete Farben lassen sich mit Wasser wieder lösen und weiterverwenden.Set 1 enthält eine gute Auswahl an basisfarben und ist wegen mangelnde Blautöne in Set 2 und 3 aus meiner Sicht Pflicht. Set 2 ist ein wenig zu trüb und dunkel und hat außerdem kein Gelb. Der hier verkaufte Set 3 hat Gelb (PY 97), aber kein echtes Blau (nur Turquoise).Ich glaube nicht, dass flüssige Aquarellfarben wirklich Vorteile bieten gegenüber Künstlerqualität Aquarellfarben aus Tuben oder aus Näpfchen. Zum Beispiel konnte ich mit Farben von Daniel Smith sehr ähnliche Ergebnisse bekommen. Wer sich hellere Farbtöne wünscht und auf Lichtechtheit verzichten kann soll stattdessen Dr. Ph. Martin's Radiant probieren.Fazit: Ich kann Hydrus als solche schon empfehlen, auch wenn man bei Set 3 aufpassen soll.
