Very comprehensive.
The author has captivated the different roles of Ram through various anecdotes and tales from various parts of India and it is refreshing to read Ram through the perspective of the people he played the different roles for. With simple English and engaging tales, this book provides much needed insights to understand Ram better.

Most sensible views on Indian mythology
Everyone out there hankering for Ram or temple should read this first and realise how ADHARMI those acts are looking at RAM through the real mythological sense. I agree with DPs views on Indian mythology in general and loved this after My Gita.

Nice little book on Rama
This is a nice sweet little book about the Vishnu avatar Ram. It tells the story of Rama's life both from the point of the major national epics such as the Valmiki Ramayana and also the numerous regional versions of the Rama Katha that were written through the millennia. it is enjoyable but does not add any more to the corpus on Rama than is already well known. I would have expected more from an "expert mythologist." For instance, there is nothing much said about the feminist criticism of Rama and its validity. Nor is there any discussion of the Buddhist, and Jain and Burmese and Thai and Indonesian versions of Rama, some of which regard Rama as a weak and ineffectual hero; and others have distinctly different takes on the great Hindu hero.
