An easy read offering clarity and insight; one of those books I'm returning to
'Two things are clear' writes the author: 'Actions, all actions, have consequences and individual actions affect others in a ripple effect'. I guess none of us would really choose to sabotage our own lives or the lives of those we love, and yet certainly my own life experience includes a long litany of self-sabotage. In this generation of mindfulness and the consciousness movement, the suggestion is I can choose how I respond to circumstances, and in those moment by moment choices, redefine who I am, redefine what my life is about. This book offers a clear, concise explanation for how subverted human needs can drive behaviour that doesn't fit the path an individual would choose to walk in accordance with his or her values. In my experience, understanding the 'why' can be the route to self-forgiveness and to greater freedom to make different choices. An easy read offering clarity and insight, it is one of those books I'm returning to.

Interesting book
I’m enjoying this book. I like the way Mark talks and how he adds his own conversational style. However, a table of contents when there isn’t a single page number throughout the book isn’t helpful. Please add pages numbering to your next publication run.

A real teaching!
All the information we should of been taught growing up! This small book is probably the best one in my very big psychology library, very thought provoking and much to ponder on.I Recommended this to a friend a quarter of the way through the book! This is one I will definitely be coming back too. Five stars!

Essential reading for all
Mark Tyrrell explains human misbehaviour as a direct result of unmet basic human needs with eloquence, illustrations from human history and individual case studies. Flavoured with Tyrrell's inimitable sense of humour this is captivating and essential reading for practitioners and for anybody seeking to understand why we self destruct.

Must read, a brilliant insightful masterpiece!
Mark has a wonderful way of writing: really insightful, well researched, easy to read, using real world examples which make sense and stick with you. As a human and as a psychotherapist, I would recommend this book to everyone to help their self awareness and self growth.

exceptionally good with no tree hugging
Great book. Devoured it in two sessions. Really practical and common sense explanations of explaining when we overthink, over analyse and hit a stuck state

what’s more useful than clarifying your needs
I have a strong demon in me and often I think it’s what’s necessitates a lot of my growth. Thanks for writing this book Mark, it helped me out a lot. You hit a lot of things on the dot and shared them in as compact a format you could. The blog posts were also a nice touchz

A great read
While all books are the experiences and opinions of the author, Mark's interesting way of writing certainly makes sense to me and my recent studies of myself by listening to my own mind and body. It was a great read with simple examples to drive home to the reader, Mark's ideas and how they could link into the darker side of human behavior.

Fulfills what is in the title.
Greetings from Brazil.Despite being only 80 pages of content, the book is intense and fulfills what is in the title by showing "The Dark Side ...". It is not an easy reading. The book points out how human needs can have a "Dark" side with serious serious consequences. I believe the book will help therapy professionals identify these behaviors. For me and people who are not professional in this Field, I believe it is valuable to identify these "Dark" behaviors in people of your closest coexistence.

Informative, insightful, easy to read
As a future therapist I was curious about this book. I found it to be not only accurate, but things were stated in a way that makes them more relatable to the average person. I loved that the writing style of this book did not come from a place of “I am educated, so I know more than you”, but rather from a perspective of one person talking to another on equal grounds. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the topic.
