Good for fumes, not so much for engraving dust.
I use this with a MOPA fiber laser to deep engrave brass coins. After engraving just one side of a coin, the filter was about 100% clogged with zero suction. When I cleaned it, I was shocked to find an overwhelming amount of brass dust clogging the pre-filter and HEPA filter. The suction power is impressive, but it’s also concerning to see just how much dust it captured. It makes you wonder how much brass dust remained airborne during the last 20% of the engraving process. :/ I gotta start wearing a n95 when I'm working... it's scary! The pre-filter is... underwhelming. It might stop something large like a banana, but it’s no match for ultra-fine metal particles. The HEPA filter did a better job catching the finer particles, but even it was completely clogged after engraving just one side of a coin. When I removed the filters to clean and replace them, I accidentally spilled the piled up dust into the unit. I'd recommend tipping the unit upside down to dump the extra dust before removing the filters. Do this outside with a mask! That said, the extractor has a lot of positives: the suction power is genuinely strong, and it runs with surprisingly manageable noise levels. The build quality is excellent—solid and clearly made to last. For laser engraving, though, maybe I should have gone with one or two sizes up. This extractor, however, would do excellent for soldering and light fume extraction. I did test it with cutting paper on the fiber and it did an excellent job of controlling the smoke, however, it didn't get rid of the odor completely. Best to mount the hood above the piece since the smoke rises up rather than down near the laser bed sucking it across the material. The downside: Filtering capacity. For heavy particulate tasks, go with something bigger. I'd suggest an inline booster with a larger filterbox. Filters are moderately pricey. The upside: Portability, low volume, ease of use, excellent filtering, excellent suction.

Really nice so far!
I should've bought this years ago... I tinker with 3D printing and simple electronics. I've built a few iterations of the classic fume extractor: A PC fan with a carbon filter in front of it and was disappointed in the lackluster performance. I designed and 3D printed a fume extractor that used an impeller attached to a 12-volt motor. It's worked better than the classic PC fan approach, but I've gotten sensitive to the fumes that flux produces, so when I saw this on Prime Day sale, I decided to cave in and buy it. As I said, I should've bought this, or one similar to it years ago. My tinkering takes place on a rollaway tool chest that doubles as a small workstation, in an unfinished basement. I've got this extractor set up on a nearby work bench that situates my larger equipment, such as toolboxes, a lab bench power supply, and my soldering station. I worried that this extractor's hose was going to be too short to reach from the bench to my rollaway station, but I gratefully note that it does! In terms of performance, I actually can't speak to it much right now; I got hit with a bad case of COVID shortly after I ordered this extractor and was too ill for weeks to even unbox it, let alone set it up and get to soldering. I've since set it up and tested it with a scenario that will give me a literal headache from fumes the following day: Dunking a soldering iron tip in flux paste to clean it before giving the tip a thermal shock with a wet sponge, repeating until the tip is clean and finishing by tinning the tip. Even with my impeller driven extractor, I'd have a moderate headache the next day after performing this task. With this extractor on half power, I couldn't smell any fumes despite cleaning TWO irons as outline above, and I had no headache the next day!! Full power obviously was more effective, but I was glad to see that I don't need to run this extractor at full power to get good results from it! It's winter here, and as I mentioned, my tinkering takes place in an unfinished basement. I probably won't be doing much soldering for the next several weeks, but I am very eager to start some projects next spring, knowing that I won't have any days following up with a headache! I will try to remember to update this review as time goes on and I use this extractor more, but as of right now, I am very pleased with this extractor! Its fit and finish are great, it's not too big or heavy for desktop/benchtop use, and I've already outlined how pleased I am with its performance! I just hope filters are readily available for this unit when the time comes for me to replace them!

Great performer and value
I upgrade to this unit from a similar design, but less costly extractor as it was not powerful enough to reduce the smoke and odors from soldering. It was taking a long to clear the air and didn't feel healthy. I selected this particular model because it seemed like it gave the most power for the least cost -- a sweet spot of performance. When I got the machine there was an issue and was frustrated, but found that the Knokoo customer service was very responsive and took measure to address the problem quickly. I'm glad I took the time to get it sorted, as I was correct in thinking this one is a great value, at least for the hobbyist like me as the performance is night and day better than what I had been using. The after-effects of soldering no longer hang in the air for an hour or more and take just a few minutes to clear. The extra power seems like double what the previous model.

Salon smells be gone!!
This is awesome!! I own a hair salon and we hired a nail girl and the smell was rough! Started using this and it’s NIGHT AND DAY difference. Works well too for Brazilian blowouts & other high smell services. It’s a little noisy but not bad!

really surprised with this unit
I honestly didn't expect much when I saw the size and the price but I am absolutely amazed at the quality. I have it hooked up to my 20 watt laser engraver and it removes ALL of the smoke. It is super quiet and so far I have only had it on the minimum setting. I will say that I will have to stock up on filters. I have been using it for a month for several hours a day and the filter is plugged. I already ordered a couple more. I can't say enough good stuff about it.
