Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn

Fun 3D Cult Classic!
I'm trying to collect 3D Blu Rays before my 3D TV goes the way of the dodo - and I kept hearing about this movie even though I never heard of it growing up in the 80s. I've liked most of the Charles Band movies I've seen and I also like Tim Thomerson and Kelly Preston, so I decided to blind-buy it. And I'm glad i did!Remember the video for Muse's "Knights of Cydonia"? This is kinda the feature length version of that - it's a corny and micro-budget sci-fi "western" that gleefully mashes up every nerdy influence you can think of, mostly Road Warrior and Star Wars, with a little bit of Conan the Barbarian and Lord of the Rings thrown in there. (I actually think some elements foreshadow Avatar and Chronicles of Riddick as well!) It's not high art and it's extremely derivative, and some special FX sequences are kinda embarrassingly shoddy, but I think there's a certain low budget charm to the whole thing. It feels made by very enthusiastic kids, and i mean that as a compliment. The 3D looks fantastic and the "Comin at Ya!" style gags are great. This is the type of movie where a villain squirts acid right into the camera in 3D, and later the hero will rip off a robotic arm and throw it at the audience in glorious slow motion. It's the type of movie that focuses onto a 3D tree branch for several seconds for no reason at all, other than it looks really cool popping out of your screen. I have to admit this movie would be pretty terrible in 2D, so don't even bother with this if you don't have a 3D TV.All in all, even if you watch this movie only once, the Blu Ray still costs less than two movie tickets and you'll probably have a blast with some friends and some beers. It's a great time!

Was I blown away. The 3D is going to put you in a daze and keep you there.
I remember watching this when it was released at the theater and when it was released on laser disc and then DVD, I was right there buying it. When I read that it was going to be released on blu-ray in 3D, I almost fell off my chair with a, "No Way" attitude. I waited to go home from work to double check if this was for real. Sure enough, after confirmation, I pre-ordered this one. I couldn't wait to watch it again as I did the first time in 3D at the theater. I wasn't expecting too much, because the movie was made back in the 80s using technology that was just coming to terms with the advancements in 3D. Anyway, long story short, this movie blew me away once again. I know, it is a cheesy sort of scifi flick, but what a great job they did on restoring the quality of the video and sound, not to mention the 3D was beyond my expectations. When the movie started, it put me on the edge of my chair and kept me there until the final credits completed. What a great quality good movie. Glad this one is on the top 10 of our 3D bluray library.

1980s 3D movie
I was lucky enough to see this movie in theaters when it came out. I really enjoyed it then, at the height of the 1980s 3D craze. Years later i purchased used vhs copys whenever i saw them. back then no one really cared about this film. but i never forgot it, i even have it a Beta copy. I dont have the laser disk version or CED version, but that's alright. the reg dvd copy was hard to find. In the end very happy to have a blue ray copy. Thank You. Thanks for reading.

Good fun from a bad movie.
This movie originally came out in 3D but obviously this isn't a 3D transfer which sometimes leads to scenes where things come flying at the camera for no reason. The story itself is low budget fare from the 80's but stuffed to almost bursting with glorious cheesy charm. There's nothing original here. A guy has to fight another guy who's trying to take over the world. There's chases, explosions, green goo that knocks people out.Tim Thomerson steals the show as a weary tracker by the name of Rhodes. Kelly Preston plays her part as the pretty daughter of one of the characters. And the always enjoyable eternal B-movie stalwart Richard Moll plays a larger than life cyclops. The lead I felt was a little lacking and thought that Tim Thomerson would have been better in the role but what can you do?This isn't a deep movie. This isn't even a good movie. If you happen to like cheesy 80's sci-fi movies or just bad movies in general then you need to put this on your list.

i saw this on cinemax in the 80s
This film brought back a lot of memories. I saw it on cinemax or hbo in the 80s and the imagery stuck with me even though i was a little kid. It's a good movie, though a bit campy. I think it was supposed to be a franchise that never took off.

Enjoyable trash.
Another in a string of Mad Max post apocalypse movies from the 80s. I had fun with this even though it's really cheap. 3D over all is pretty good with a few scenes that have some eye strain but nothing too bad. Has a good doco about the making of it with interviews with Richard Moll. Enjoyable trash.

Sci Fi
The moment I saw this 80's classic again I felt really nostalgic. The movie is kind of like a western but set on a colonised distant planet. Our hero is a ranger who travels the wastelands searching for an evil mystic who has riled all the warrior tribes up for a territoy war.The shoe string budget does'nt stop the whole thing being ambitious and full of (admittedly cheesey) special effects.Tim Thomerson of "Trancers" fame shows up as does Richard Moll who is always excellent playing bad guys but is actually a goodie in this one.Would have been a better disc though if the movie had been remastered etc. but it is still very watchable.
