Q: Is there a way to just have it fade down to a very low light level without turning LED off completely?

I don't think that this feature is supported by their circuit, but you could add an external circuit to maintain some current flow in parallel to their device (not sure if its negative-switched or positive-switched.)

Q: Old model (p/n 3988) had high/low triggers. why the change and is the old model still available? i don't want to use relays and i have no use for >2a

The new version of the 2A fade-in fade-out dimmer has both high and low triggers while the old version only has high trigger. If the dimmer you received has two triggers wires (blue and yellow) then yours is the new version. They both are with p/n 3988. The new version works exactly same and has same waterproof capability as the old version, except a low trigger added. The low trigger gives you an alternative option to trigger LED lights by a ground signal. Both new and old version DO NOT use relays but IC (solid state circuit) to generate PWM signal for dimming.

Q: How do i wire this to a pir motion sensor? i'm guessing i would need a relay of some sort?

You don't need a relay as long as your PIR motion sensor is with positive trigger output. Wire the 12V+ output from your motion sensor to the blue trigger wire of the dimmer, then it will work.
