This will likely go down as one of the great American Water Heaters boondoggles.Some brilliant engineer thought it was a good idea to put a proprietary left hand threaded resistor theromocouple on their water heaters. Only problem is they forgot to ask the plumbers who had to repair them when they failed.Which customer wants to wait for days while their plumber orders a part from the factory which they once were able to carry on their truck for just a few bucks. End result is plumbers started shifting to another brand of heaters. For the lucky homeowners, their water heaters thermocouples failed before the warranty expired. The unlucky ones had to fork over a hundred or two for a new pilot burner assembly (BFG kit) plus labor.In any case this BFG kit works well as a replacement to a component which should have been better designed in the first place. I've only had one failure of the newly designed BFG pilot burner assembly in the past several years. The failure involved the white thermal switch on the cover plate. That of course involved the replacement of the entire pilot burner assembly once again.

My thermo couple was apparently not working properly and thought a kit was an easy solution to save time and hassle. After installing it, I went to a known chain of retail home improvement and appliance stores and to my surprise I saw half a dozen of this item on a shelf for almost half of the price I paid with the delivery.

This easily replaceable part saved me a ton of money. This retrofit part includes additional safety features which necessitates a left-handed thread to accommodate an additional thermocouple. Kit installed in about 10 minutes and worked flawlessly.
