Hi! Do you know if it dye well?

This is my favorite fabric to dye with procion mx dyes. It is absolutely lovely.

How well would this work for clothing? Like a Medieval monk costume?

I think it would work very well. It's heavy fabric. You could always dye it the color you need it to be.

Does it shrink when washed?

I have not washed this muslin as it was not necessary for my intended application. However, most 100% cotton fabric will shrink when washed and dried.

Is this good for making costume period undergarments?

Yes. It is a light weight natural cotton and should be comfortable. However, there is a LOT of shrinkage. Be sure to wash in hot water and iron before cutting out your pattern pieces. Be aware that linen, not cotton, was the fabric most likely to be used as undergarments from the medieval period into 18th centuries. Cotton would be imported. Linen was produced domestically.
