A Short History of South-East Asia

EXCELLENT succinct history of an area Americans (most) are uneducated about
Having just returned from SE Asia I can say in all honesty, if you want one succinct book on the history and current (but not current enough and reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars)--this is it.Read before we went, will re-read when jet lag abates.

Good short history. I recommend it to my business network especially those new to SE Asia. Helps me understand the way things are here.

Great primer to Asia !
Bought this at Asia Books in Bangkok ! Great primer in regards to SE Asia as far as business, economics, history and where the countries may be heading in the future...Peter Church's name does NOT connect to his page here on Amazon--dunno why--such a shame as he is the editor and I assume author.

Concise and well written
A well written and concise book to all those who wish to read a short overview on South East Asia. The author presents the most important events of each country split into sections of the most important eras, but at the same time tying each era to the other. The only minor issue is the lack of any information on Papua New Guinea (at least in the edition I bought).

Basic South East Asian history
This is a good book which sets out the history of the South East Asia area by individual nation, for a reader with no prior knowledge. This makes it an idea book to dip into to read up about an individual country for a traveler in the area; a starter for anyone setting out to learn more detailed history of the area later, or a easy reading and interesting history book for the interested reader.
