- The mortar and pestle are ancient tools that no modern kitchen should be without. - handy for everything from cracking peppercorns and crushing tender herbs to making pesto and guacamole. - Crush vitamins for the kids, or for putting in smoothies. - Mash roasted herbs and spices for delicate cuisines. - Not too heavy. The mortar is only 1.7lb, yet sturdy enough with its silicone base to do the job.

I purchased this mortar and pestle because of the reviews ...
I purchased this mortar and pestle because of the reviews it received. I wasn't impressed with this set. I used it to crush frankincense and the pieces stuck to the bottom of the pestle and well as to the inside of the mortar. I would think the product need a different finish on the inside of the bowl to keep items from sticking. Also I noticed after washing the mortar, it wasn't entirely clean.

It was a chore I disliked doing daily
I RATE THIS A 10 !!!!!! This has made having to crush meds for my daughter's G-TUBE a total breeze.I had one made of marble but the bowl had ridges in it and the meds would get packed into the ridges. It was a chore I disliked doing daily.NOW CRUSHING MEDS IS A BREEZE. TAKES NO EFFORT TO CRUSH THE MEDS. UNLIKE THE MARBLE ONE AND THE SILICONE HANDLE IS JUST THE RIGHT SIZE. I LOVE IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! I'm sure it would be awesome in the kitchen as well.

Looks nice but the silicone is glued on improperly.
Cute and doesn't slide around when I use it. However the red silicone is glued on very sloppily. I had to carefully take it off or else it would be sitting uneven. The constant pounding would break thru the silicone when it's not hugging the base snuggly.Update 12/8/2017It has been less than a year since I bought this and although it works well when I used it, the bottom just broke through last night. I've only used it less than 10 times. I did like it but unfortunately it breaks too easily.

Amazingly easy pill crusher!
I have never used a mortar and pestle before and wasn't quite sure what to expect. I love this set! My dog needs to take 2 rather large pills a day and refuses to chew them. I bought a plastic pill crusher locally which only lasted about a 10 days before it would no longer crush the pills. I searched Amazon and found this wonderful mortar and pestle set. The design is easy to hold and doesn't slip on the counter. I am now able to crush 2 tablets together in seconds to a fine powder. It also looks great sitting on my counter!

EXCELLENT !!
Excellent !! I was a bit skeptical about how well the porcelain would stand up to breaking up pills by pounding, but it works very well. Where the contents comes in contact with the mortar & pestle they are roughed up for good traction. The size is perfect (about 1/2 the volume of a coffee mug). All in all, a good mortar & pestle. I would buy it again if I ever needed another.

Bright & Sturdy
This is a slightly heavy and durable product that will last for many years to come. It was bigger than I expected so make sure you check the weight & dimensions. I ordered the red one and the colors are vibrant. The mortar itself has a nice bottom so it doesn't slip.Customer service is prompt and answered the questions that I had!!

Meeting or needs nicely.
Maybe I didn't pay attention when ordering, it is larger than I expected. Regardless it does a great job pulverizing pills a task my wife had struggled with in caring for her aged mother. I can also see lots of other future uses. Only thing that threw me is that while she has always said her favorite color was red, she said she would like the green one!
