Grate

I bought my stove 10 years ago and I just replaced the grate for the first time.Been burning wood and coal .

Primary heat source

We've used this stove for 10 years. Almost every year we have to replace the grate. They are junk. The stove is tack welded and ash comes out of it everywhere, just really dusty. It'll get you by, but we are investing in a better stove this year. If you didn't depend on it and only used intermittently it would be ok. Not for primary constant use. It's not built for that. It's nice that you can cook on top of it.

Disapointing

I had a Klondike freestanding wood stove that I replaced with this wonderluxe B2350. When I saw the stove in the store it reminded me of the stove that my friends parents had when I was growing up. It was an Ashley, and absolutely the best heating stove around. I have burnt less than a cord of wood and the stove is unusable . The gratings are already sagging so bad it is impossible to get the ash pan out anymore. The door gasket shredded about the third time I open and closed the door. The catch on the outer shell door was not working properly and when I tried to shut the door it bent both the door and the shell frame. The ash pan is warp so badly if you lay it flat on the floor one corner is 3 inches off the floor. The feed door catch has to be tightened at least once a day or it will get so loose it will not hold the door shut, problem is if you tighten it to where holds the door shut and almost takes two hands to move the of the handle. The design of the stove is still sound, same as Ashley it will pump out a lot of heat. The problem is that the quality of the materials and the workmanship is absolute junk. I will likely have to reinstall my old Klondike before the heating season is over, and consider this stove a complete waste of more than $500, it's so bad I would not even consider wasting the money to replace the already shot grates. Do yourself a favor and stay away from US stoves. I have been burning wood for many years in many different stoves and have even built a few stoves myself, and NO I id NOT over fire this stove and the comment about not keeping the ash pan dumped causing grate burn out is utter BS it is just the opposite when too much ashes build up it reduces the air infeed below the grates causing that area to not get as hot as it will when the ash pan is empty, the stove will not heat or perform as well as should if the ash pan is not emptied enough but it will NOT cause the grate to burn out.  US Stove B2350 Wonderluxe Coal Stove

Don’t waste your money on the stove! After three years I’ve replaced a great I’ve had replace the ash door and now the firebrick is falling apart! And all these are not cheap or easy to replace! I owned a wonder coal before that it was an excellent stove I don’t know what happened US stove company other than the fact they’re being made in China now! Look elsewhere!

6 seasons as sole heat still going.

I have used my wonderlux as the sole heat in my house for 6 seasons without a single problem. I burn wood mostly and admit, as with any coal stove without a roller grate instead of shaker grate, you will have to periodically take out the clinkers if you burn coal. After six hard years, the stove is in need of door seals and a grate but still serviceable till spring. The grate is slowly cracking under high heat and big loads, but isn’t bad or unexpected. I recommend this if you want a good simple stove that you can cook on in power outages. Speaking of which, I have cooked some great meals on this stove in prolonged power outages.

Keep the ashes emptied out of your stove, this is what keeps your grates in good shape!!

This is my 8th season and my only heat source here in Indiana, I finally have to replace the grate in my stove. If you keep the ashes emptied out of your stove the grates will last for a long time. I highly recommend this stove to anyone. These negitive reviews are from folks who don’t know how to use a wood burning stove. You cannot beat this stove for the money!! Highly recommend!!

Save your money and maybe your life

Had this night mare for two seasons.A) it will not draft properly no matter what we do or what we burn.It will soot up a 6 inch pipe in 24 hours, burning two year seasoned oak. It takes even less time burning anthracite.B) any time you open the he feed door you Will fill your house with smoke.C) we've tried every flu configuration known to man.90 off the stove 6 ft single wall to tripple wall thru roof. 4 foot above flat roof to spark cap. It condensates and runs black goo down into the house that melts/resolved pipe cement at the two joints. The most recent attempt at running this night mare set off co2 alarms and killed two pet birds. It's going out in the scrap metal heap.

Right a Wrong

I Have owned this stove for 3 years. I need to say the previous review is just plain wrong. I have never had a problem with the grates. The only way a grate burns out is if you don't empty the ashes and they fill up to the bottom of the grate. Empty the ashes and no grate problem. If you warp the bottom of the unit you have definitely over fired it. When your in the dead of the winter you will have to empty ashes every day if you burn anthracite coal. Burning wood you can go about two to three days before emptying ashes. The shaker grate is not the best so I dont use it. I bought a flat piece of 1/4 inch steel that is 3 feet long from Lowes and I slot it in above the grate and work it back and forth. It works fantastic. I recommend burning Anthracite coal in it because it works much better and no worries of a flue fire. Enjoy
