Superb
It's hard to imagine how poorly received this film was at the time of its original release because it has certainly stood the test of time. This 4k set has a decent amount of extras. The soundtrack is good. The poster and booklet are nice. The blu ray...is not the best version you can get...and is probably the weakest part of the box set. Overall the package is pretty good. The 4k though is exceptional. This is one of those releases where you can see that the effort has really been made to make the film look good. Noticeable upticks in detail, clarity and texture. Improved colour throughout. I did wonder whether the practical special effects would be less convincing in 4k. They actually look better than they ever have and some of them are exceptionally unpleasant in the best possible way. Some 4k releases end up being very much "for the fans" and have little to recommend them to new viewers. This is not one of those films and you could probably use this disc to show off what a good 4k conversion can be. It's not the best I've seen but it is up there with the best. Definitely recommended.

A cult classic in 4K
While a flop upon first release - John Carpenter’s The Thing quickly gained cult status as one of the scariest horror/sci-fi films ever made. This film is a testament to how great horror's were back then compared to what we have now.The 4k transfer is one of the best compared to blu ray, and really gives that eerie feeling of dread that the director was going for.

Buy it somewhere where they can pack it properly
Thanks Amazon, due to your cheapest possible "packaging", most of us buyers receive damaged boxes. This is limited edition, so it's not like you can easily send it back and get replacement.About the 4K restoration - it's great, HDR colors pop, so do the details. Great upgrade over blu-ray.

Where gonna find out , who's the thing!
John Carpenter's horror classic THE THING , in stunning 4k. A twelve man team based, in a research station in Antarctica. Find burned remains of two bodies attached together and . Bring it back to there base, to do an autopsy to find out what it is. What they don't know, is that not only. Does this thing, not just come back to life , bit it can also immatate other lifeforms. Now each one of them is under threat, as this thing. Wants to kill them . Turn them against each other, one by one. They must kill it , before it kills them. This looks superb in 4k . I've never seen it look and sound better, it's true what they say. About noticing the difference. On older films , how brilliant they look and. This is on top of the list, Studio Canal. Have done wonders. With this edition of it. You get four discs, the main 4k one, the standard bluray of it, a soundtrack also. You get the prequel of The Thing, which is a sweet bonus. This is so underrated prequel, and deserves its place in this great edition of a boxset . You get too a booklet, poster, and lobby cards again. Such a trembous meaty pack edition, my only gripe is .The extras are a bit light. On it compared to the Scream Factory region a release. Don't let that put you off, this is the best edition to go for and it's on 4k. Pick this up now, while it's still going. Cause these will sell out super fast, a must have for all 4k collectors.

Amazon packed...
Lets face it Universal did a pretty good job on the 4k part. Still a few picture and sound flaws but all together good job. Seeing details in the movie as newer shown before. The collectors blocket has varius script and pictures, overall good together with the extra documentary on the discs and soundtrack cd together with the 2011 edition of Thing.Should it have been more effort at this cost... Well..Im still going to keep my Arrow box for now...As usally for the packing from Amazon.. See the resolts from the pictures yourself.
