Bianca Schulze has put together a comprehensive and wonderful book that is the perfect guide to help parents pick books when they navigate their children through childhood. She starts with those early books, the ones you read at night to your child when they are tucked into bed, cozy and warm. Books that evoke giggles as well as questions, sometimes rhyming silliness like The Seven Silly Eaters or deeply moving like The Giving Tree. She gives ages range for the book, genre, the publisher, publication date as well as page count. She spices up the page with tidbits of trivia, just enough to tickle the interest of both parents and children, and lastly there is a suggestion of books to read next. She includes a spot for young readers to rate the book and leave notes, creating a diary to go back and remember their thoughts. Thoughtful, thorough, and diverse, this is the ultimate guide to help develop a well-read child. It provides them a piece of our literary world, preparing them with a strong foundation to want to read and search out more as they grow into adulthood. This book will satisfy both children and parents preparing them to embrace reading and the wonder of a good book for the rest of their lives.

Entice kids to wonder, laugh, cry, and almost always close the book with a smile.
We love how inclusive this book is—kids of so many backgrounds with their many interests are sure to find books they love. This is such a great tool for getting kids active in choosing their own books—a great way to create readers. This is the author's note:"The ultimate final list of 101 books is a combination of classic and contemporary picture books, beginning chapter books, graphic novels, and middle grade novels chosen for their powers to entice kids to wonder, laugh, cry, and almost always close the book with a smile. With so many amazing books to be discovered and read and far too many to list in one fun book, the 101 awesome books that I have selected as the books to read before kids grow up have one collective message:Be kind, be brave, and make good choices. Remember the struggles of those that came before you. Always dream of the fantastical future ahead of you and those that come after you. Be true to yourself and, with every page you turn, live your life like an epic adventure."

Great Book for What to Read To Your Kiddos!
As a firm lover of lists, this book is right up my alley! It has a great selection of books, broken down by age level that your kids can read, or you can read to them. My boys love to rate the books after we read them with the system of 1-5 stars, a space to write down your favorite characters, and any other notes you have.Chances are, you've probably read a good number of the picture books, but there have been some surprises in the list that we'd never heard of before! We just finished The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh as a family, and it was one of the best reading experiences we've had yet. I don't know that I would have picked it up if not for this list of books!Get this book! It makes trips to the library a lot more productive! hahaha

Fun book
A fun book. It definitely doesn't have "every book" that we would choose for our own list of 101 Books, and it has a few my kiddos have zero desire to read, but it's definitely going to expose us to some new books we haven't read yet. Regardless it's a fun book. We'll begin working our way through it this summer.

Love this book as a reference
Love this book as a reference. My kids are grown and we read many of the books listed when the were growing up. I have several nieces and nephews and purchased this as a family gift for them to read the synopsis of what each book is about. This covers a wide range of so many things you want your children to learn and be exposed to as they grow up - and the illustrations are absolutely wonderful! So eye catching - my nieces and nephews love the poster page at the back of the book. It could easily be framed and hung in a child's room for a cheery, colorful decoration.

Terrific book!
I bought it for my son to read with my grandson (age about 4 now). The format of the book is great. They are buying one of the primary books every month, and then checking out the related or "also recommended" books from the library, and enjoying it tremendously.

A perfect guide for helping children select age-appropriate books that suit ...
Where was this book when I was a kid? This volume should be on every teacher's, reader's and children's book author's bookshelf. A perfect guide for helping children select age-appropriate books that suit individual interests such as fantasy, mystery, animals. There are contemporary picks as well as the classics. If you're looking for a perfect gift for the teacher or librarian in your life - this is it. Get one for your favorite kid too.

And this book was recommended for a 4TH-GRADER
I was so excited about this book when I saw it posted on an Instagram account I follow of a fellow mom. I've had a hard time finding books for my 9-year old lately and thought this would help. The book arrived in the mail and I gave it to my son - he was excited as well and started thumbing through it to look for some titles that seemed interesting to him. He came up with 4 and I went to the library the following day. When I picked up "George," by Alex Gino, I opened the book and read the inside description. I quickly became horrified as I realized what this book was about...a transgender kid. And this book was recommended for a 4TH-GRADER? I'm sorry but that is completely inappropriate material for my 9-year-old. Why is it that we are trying to expose our young, innocent kids to things at a younger and younger age? I am extremely disappointed that this book of 101 books that my kids should supposedly read before they grow up is suggesting a book about a VERY GROWN-UP SUBJECT MATTER. Very disappointing to say the least. Let children be children.

They're listed in order of readers age.
A great book. I love how they're listed by age. There's a small notes section where my daughter can write whether she liked it or not and what parts were her favorite. They also suggest other books based on liking the one you just read.Overall a great purchase that I recommend for any little reader out there.
