Inspiring and educational
Great book that is easy to read and gives an excellent opportunity to learn about Harriet Tubman from her youth, experiences on the underground railroad, and her service in the military. Everyone should know about this courageous woman.

Have you ever been caught up in a good book? Well I know I’ve been caught up ...
I am a 4th grade student in Ms. Williams class. This is my review of Freedom Train.Have you ever been caught up in a good book ? Well I know I’ve been caught up in a lot of good books. My favorite one though is Harriet Tubman Freedom Train written by Dorothy Sterling. My favorite book is Harriet Tubman Freedom Train Written by Dorothy Sterling. It is Interesting,Historic, and Heroic.First of all, the book is my favorite because it is interesting. In the book when you read it you always think something is going to happen and then the opposite things happens and you don’t know what’s going on. You read the book and have all these questions and you want to know so and something else happens and it’s like a mystery. You always find out different things in the book and that is what makes it so interesting.Second of all, it’s my favorite because it’s Historic. It tells you all about Harriet’s life and what she did to save the slaves and all that stuff. It also tells you about helps you understand what was happening back then in the slavery time. And it tells you about what happened to all the slaves and what they did and what there were going to do.Thats why it is Historic.Last of all, it’s my favorite book because it’s heroic. It tell’s all about how Harriet was the slaves Moses and how she saved all them. It also tells about how the other slaves that she brought stood up and helped her free the other slaves. Lastly, Harriet gave the slaves the courage to run away on their own. That’s why it’s heroic. This is my favorite book because I like chapter book’s and history book’s and this was two in one and it’s the perfect book for me. It’s all about Harriet’s life and the slaves life.In the book she helps all the slaves and her family and close friends.Harriet saves her family, close friends, and strangers and I think Harriet Tubman is amazing and a hero. My favorite book is Harriet Tubman Freedom Train. You should buy this book and read it right now because this is the best book ever.

This was an excellent book; well written
This was an excellent book; well written, and fantastically interesting. A 3rd grader I mentor showed me a simpler version of Harriet Tubman's story and was excited to have read it. I had an old copy of this exact book (different cover, earlier publication) that I read and was amazed at Harriet's life. I had heard only the abbreviated, textbook version in my youth, so this was an eye-opener as far as understanding history. Her individual story makes that part of history come alive. I bought this copy so I could give my student this more detailed accounting of Harriet's story. (Since she had so recently read the short version (golden book style), I told her to save it for summer.)I would certainly recommend this book to anyone with any interest in history, good biography, or just an engrossing story. It is all that. Harriet Tubman was an exceptional person. Much of the story is taken from notes transcribed after each of her trips "driving" the "Freedom Train", so the facts were gathered contemporaneously to her adventures, making them probably more reliable and detailed. Read it, you'll like it.

nice book, spine glue isn't strong vs FL sun in the car.
nice quick read. the glue at the spine came apart when I left it on the dash in the car in the Florida summer,.... but it glued back together well enough! What else are you looking for in such a review!?!?

Important Piece of American History
As a spy, she used disguises and passwords, forged documents and secret signals. But these weapons of warfare were always selected with the greatest simplicity.~ From Freedom Train: The Story of Harriet TubmanMy kiddo and I both gave Freedom Train 5 stars. For intermediate and middle grade readers, I can't ask too much from it because there are some chapters where a lull of excitement sets in, and you don't want that for young readers. Even as an adult, if this book had've been any longer, I would have put it aside for a few days - maybe longer - and then returned because of that. When readers are in training (and they're in training until they can hold a conversation about a book without any coaching, in my professional opinion) you want them hungry and being fed, not having the opportunity for the mind to wander. But, this is an extremely important book for Americans to read. There are also decent snippets of European and Canadian history included as well, for those of you reading from outside the States. Thank you, btw, for your perusal. This book is a chapter of American history that must be remembered. It inspires a sense of appreciation and reality. Recounting how Harriet Tubman was fiercely focused and overcame any circumstance helps me to acknowledge that I don't really have anything worth complaining about. And, not only that, but I can overcome anything I may face because she did with less of everything than I have in my life. That's a lesson for subsequent generations - they always have more; more access, more information, more rights, more freedom. So are they overcoming or wasting their resources? It's also important because it deals with the problem solving of societal, anthropological and sociological issues. As well as everyday life solutions. Being able to problem solve - to recognize and diagnose a misfire and contruct a viable solution - is a major life skill. Advanced problem-solving skills bring success in any realm. Pointing out a problem is a lower-level skill, but solving problems creates a career.READ MORE at ... [...]
