worth the investment
this was a replacement order for one that arrived destroyed. this fit perfectly and made a huge improvement over the 25 year old stock rag joint. this is well worth the investment. yes the cheap plastic cover is not as good as the factory original rubber. it did crack getting it into place but i knew this was possible going into it from other reviews i had read, if i were to do it again i would have used the stock rubber cover it is much more forgiving.

21-year-old Suburban steers like new!
Our 1999 Suburban 1500's steering had gotten extremely sloppy, with more than 20-degrees of play in the steering wheel. A quick inspection revealed that the rag joint was completely shot. I watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to do the repair, and it looked straightforward enough. The actual job of removing and replacing the steering shaft went smoothly, required only basic hand tools, and took less time than watching the videos. The result was an overwhelming success. The old 'Burb's steering is now nice and tight. All the slop is gone.

Tightened Up the Steering for Sure
Made my 1995 Chevy 2500 pickup easier to drive for sure! It was drifting in the driving lane pretty bad but now it tracks fairly straight. Nothing like it was. Of course it's not perfect (old truck) but 90-95% better. I'm satisfied with the purchase. Also saved $50-$150 over local auto parts store asking prices.Installation note: the OEM part came off (or goes on) the splines on the gear box with bolt only loosened. This Dorman replacement shaft would only go on (or off) with bolt out due to the slightly lower hole position. Other than that initial headache, it was an easy install.

No more play
Took away the 1/2” of play I had in my steering. Worth the money

Had to reuse the oem cover
Pretty straight forward install but the blk cover supplied would not fit had to reuse the stock plastic cover.
