Batsford Contemporary Landscapes in Mixed Media

I'm really pleased with this book, mostly because it includes a generous number of the author's bold, colourful paintings (I like art books with lots of pictures!). I haven't read much of the text yet and I don't actually use acrylics myself, so for me it's more about general visual inspiration: ideas and examples of how to use colour more creatively and imaginatively in landscapes.

Interesting ideas but this isn`t mixed media - it`s acrylic with the odd addition of pastel etc and a lot of texture and gel mediums. Not for people who lean towards transparent media or drawing. However, it does have some very nice ideas.

This is not for a beginner, you need to be fairly knowledgeable already. If you want to learn contemporary art, the technique and how to achieve it, this is not the book for you. However, it is very good in explaining the different medium that can be used to achieve contemporary art. It’s good to have in collection.

Just what I wanted to inspire me to go back to painting.
