Equal in quality to the rest of the series
Wasn't sure I needed it after Let it be Naked, but it is well worth it. A worthy addition. As is thegetnack video and book!

It's the Beatles plain and simple.
First things first if you find anything to complain about with this super deluxe edition then you are not in the group of people it is aimed at. You have just spent a small fortune and already have a fairly good idea of what you are getting, and to those who choose to waffle on about reverb on the vocals or there being too much compression, well the truth is neither you nor I are sound engineers! Remember the project has been signed off by the surving Beatles or thier spouses who are much more likely to know how it "should sound".Right ok rant over! The item itself is quite exemplary, the quality is unimpeachable and beautifully packaged. In a nut shell it is as you would expect from The Beatles! As the Beatles obsessive that I am I was never going to criticize the music due to it being excellent but would like to point out that this is not for the casual listener being the super deluxe pack but for those like me who should know better but would buy the phone book if it was sung by The Beatles, so to sum up if your a Beatles super fan you won't be disappointed and if not why are you spend over £100 on an album? I bought it I think it's great and that's that!

Meets all expectations
The run up to this issue has allowed excellent coverage of the contents and presentation. There has been so much from these sessions issued in "unofficial" versions over the years and there is a wealth of variations which could still be given the "official" treatment but this 5CD / Blu-ray set is an excellent start. As with most Beatle re-issues one could complain that the surplus CD space could be used but this is countered by the desire to let the old LP stand alone. Given that disc 5 is only four tracks in a new compilation I believe both views have validity here. That disc could have taken up a bit of the surplus material in stock. The book is well framed and the six discs sitting in individual sleeves which then slot into a folder separate from the book is a good idea. The cover holding the two items is well thought out. It is sturdy and resistant to fingerprints (ie not black & glossy) with a nice texture.I recommend this version for its scope but also suggest that the "Get Back" hardback book issued at the same time be purchased to give even greater insight to those interesting times.

910*
* Well, there is a song called 'One After 909'.The penultimate album they recorded, ‘Let It Be’ was the last the group released and, despite being delayed for 18 months, has now been given the 50th Anniversary treatment. Available in six configurations, this is the six disc super deluxe edition.CD1:The remixing of the original LP makes everything clearer and allows you to discover things previously difficult to hear. ‘Across The Universe’ comes over as softer and really does sound heavenly but ‘Dig It’ and the sea shanty of ‘Maggie Mae’ are still throwaway ditties. It’s worth noting that parts (or all) of some performances here were issued on the ‘Let It Be...Naked’ CD.CD2:Looking like an Apple acetate, the casual listener might not notice anything different in these takes but the die-hard fan will. And that’s at whom the deluxe set is aimed. I don’t think speech tracks mix well with musical ones but there are a couple here. To counter those is take 3 of ‘One After 909’*, with a rock ‘n’ roll piano from Billy Preston right up in the mix.CD3:The most interesting of all the discs here simply because ten of the songs never appeared on the album and three didn’t find a release on anything, like CD2, this replicates an Apple acetate. Unfortunately, the most enticing songs are no more than 90 seconds or so of a few lines because, as Ringo states after the single verse of ‘Octopus’ Garden’, “That’s all I have”. Despite being just rehearsals, they’re all still a tempting listen, nonetheless. And it does make you wonder what might have been had they taken these further at the time. The best thing on this disc is Billy Preston's blues vocal on 'Without A Song'.CD4:Called ‘Get Back’, this is what the album was going to be had it not been rejected by the group at the time, but I think some versions here are better than what we’re familiar with. ‘For You Blue’ being one, which has a different, and I believe, better vocal, and the McCartney ballads sound more intimate. This has an appeal of its own, sounding more human than the polished versions. It’s also a truer reflection of the original aim; raw with no overdubs or corrections Others, however, might get the overall feeling of unhappy musicians generally not that interested in what they’re doing. You decide. What is nice about this CD is that the sleeve copies the ‘Please Please Me’ LP, but the text on the reverse is a bit hard to readCD5:Strangely, this is just a four track EP. An unreleased January 1970 mix of ‘Across The Universe’ (and this is the seventh time this song has been issued in various mixes and versions and is by far the best of them all, lowering the backing vocals and making more of the tamboura) is joined by the original sub two minute version of ‘I Me Mine’, also from January1970 and featuring three real Beatles, and new mixes of both the single of ‘Let It Be’, as it was a different version to that on the LP, and ‘Don’t Let Me Down’. The latter with an amusing chat beforehand.CD6:A Blu-ray disc that contains a Dolby Atmos mix of the original album, alongside a 5.1 Surround Sound mix and a High-res stereo mix. It’s also on the red Apple label.BOOK:As with the other anniversary reissues, the 105 page hard back book contains a plethora of unseen photos, tape boxes, etc. alongside extensive recording information that makes all other books on the subject somewhat redundant.BOX:The white book and CD folder slide out from the black box from the left and if you have the latter on the top, you can have yourself a completely different cover.VERDICT:Certainly not their finest work, and probably not too high in the list of favourite albums of any fan, it would still be the pinnacle of most other artists career. The alternate versions and takes aren’t too dissimilar and whilst I don't think there’s enough variety here to excite as many as the other Anniversary sets did, it’s still worthwhile. Anything the Beatles release generates column inches most other artists can only dream of and with the film due late November, maybe it will encourage a new generation of fans.

Price Drop
When this box set was originally released, I was underwhelmed to the point of not bothering to buy it. Also, while an excellent album and a career highlight for 99% of other artists, Let It Be is arguably the Beatles least brilliant Long Player alongside Beatles For Sale.Let It Be is a good album, just look at the songs, and at the much reduced price of £40 I wasn't going to turn my nose up, and I'm glad to have got it.

Bargain
Since the release of this box set I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled to see if it would be discounted. To my delight it was almost 60% of the original cost so I didn’t hesitate in ordering it. As for the product, you can’t fault it. Quality box set, a must for not only Beatle fans but anyone who enjoys music from arguably the best band that ever existed.

The Best Representation Of The Let It Be Sessions I've Ever Heard
The Book Is A Wealth Of Knowledge Well Written And Researched And May Contain More Information On The Let It Be Sessions Than Most People Will Ever Want To Know About Them (Like That Yoko Wanted To Play The Finale Concert To 20,000 Empty Chairs) However If Let It Be Happens To Be Your Favorite Beatles Album Then This Set Was Made For YouThe First Disc Is A Wonderfully Remastered CD Version Of The Original Let It Be Album Which We All Know And Love Sounding Better Than I've Ever Heard Before And It Is Beautifully RemasteredThe Second And Third Discs Are Rehearsals And Outtakes From The Sessions With Chatter And Joking Around Like You Wouldn't Believe Michael Lindsay Hoggs Original Documentary Film Would Lead You To Believe That The Beatles Were Constantly Fighting With Each Other During This Period Hopefully This Along With Peter Jackson's New Get Back Film Will Put Those Rumors To Bed Permanently Just A Warning Not All The Rehearsals And Outtakes Are Stellar Many Are Wonderful Such As George Leading The Group Through A Run Through Of All Things Must Pass Even Though In The First Verse It Sounds Like John Is Takng The Mickey Out Of It It Still Turns Into A Wonderful Three Part Harmony During The Choruses At Least, John Does A Very Rudimentary Sketch Of What Will Become Gimme Some Truth I Mean Most Of The Words Aren't Written Yet But The Basic Melody Is There And It's An Informative If Not Fully Satisfying Listen, Maggie Mae Is There And Sounds Like They Included It Just To Show You That They Lifted It From That Rehearsal Take For The Album And That It Was Originally Paired With One Of Paul McCartney's Silliest Love Songs Ever Called Fancy My Chances With You A Song That When I Listened To It Actually Made Me Laugh Out Loud Not A Great Song By Any Stretch But If You're Looking To Laugh Fancy My Chances With You Will Accomplish That A Song So Bad That It's Good However When Asked How He Felt About The Project John Starts Strumming His Guitar And Singing How He Likes The Idea Rather A Lot Obviously We Should Concentrate On The Sound It's Weird It's Definitely John The Only Difference Between These Two Songs Is That John Meant To Be Funny And Get A Laugh Which He Did Paul Singing Fancy My Chances With You Was Dead Serious Hoping It Would End Up On The Album The Rest Is Songs That Ended Up On The Album Or They Were At Least Attempting To Get On They Are A Fun And Educational Listen One Of My Personal Favorites Is Dig A Pony Beginning And Ending With All I Want Is YouAnd Now For The Part Of The Review That Most Fans Are Waiting For Disc 4 The Get Back CD Which Was Let It Be When Glyn Johns Was Producing Before Phil Spector Got His Overproducing Little Hands On It Despite What John Said That The Tapes Were Unlistenable Until Phil Spector Got Ahold Of Them However That's Not Completely True But He Did Make Some Decisions That Were Right On But So Did Glyn Johns But Until Now Glyn Johns Versions Of The Recordings Weren't Available And Now That They Are I'd Like To Recommend Some Glyn Johns Replacements For Some Of The Phil Spector Ones But There Are Also Ones I Recommend You Just Leave Alone And I've Got To Say As A Man Whose Been Listening To Let It Be In It's Original Form Since I Was 14 Years Old I'm Not Sure I Can Be As Completely Unbiased as I'd Like But I Am Sure As Heck Going To Try Most Of The Songs Are The Same As What's On Let It Be Except For The I'm Ready/Save The Last Dance For Me Medley Which Is Just A Jam Session That's Done Well Don't Let Me Down Which Is A Great Single Which Was Originally Intended For The Album And The Infamous Version Of Teddy Boy Where John Becomes A Square Dance Caller Which Adds Nothing To The Song Except Laughter And Levity Other Than These The Song List Is Identical To Phil Spector's Track List But The Songs Are In A Different Running Order And Some Were Mixed DifferentlyThis Version Of The Album Starts Off With One After 909 Which Is What Phil Spector Probably Should Have Done But Hey Two Of Us Is A Great Song Too And I Would Really Miss The Album Opening With John's Hilarious I Dig A Pygmy Line But In 2021 I 'm Sure This Could Be Moved To Just Before The Start Of One After 909 But To Suggest That Seems Like Beatle Blasphemy Because It Was One Of The Tracks Culled From The Rooftop This Was Not One Of The Tracks That Phil Spector Touched Up And Therefore Sounds Exactly The Same As The OriginalThe Second Track Is The I'm Ready/Save The Last Dance For Me Jam Session Which Is Fun But Since There's Nothing To Compare It To On The Phil Spector Version Of The Album We'll Move OnDon't Let Me Down Was Originally Meant To Be On The Album But Phil Spector Cut It And It Got Relegated To A Single Which Was A Shame But I DigressDig A Pony The Same Version Minus John's Vocal Flub From The Rehearsal Disc That Begins And Ends With All I Want Is You Why Spector Cut That From His Version Is Beyond Me But Since I'm Not A Music Producer I Don't Feel Qualified To Question His Creative Choices Merely To Validate The One We Would Have Gotten If Glyn Johns Had Been The Producer Also Before The Song Starts John Tells Paul We'll Do This One And Go Straight Into I've Got A Fever LOLI've Got A Feeling This Is One Of The Live Recordings That Spector Didn't Touch No Changes Same Old Musical Argument We've Always Known And Loved I've Got A Feeling/Everybody Had A Hard YearGet Back The Glyn Johns Full Version As It Was Meant To Be Heard Complete With The Get Back Loretta Speech Which Of Course Spector Messed Up By Cutting Off After The Ooh The Song Could Have Finished And Then There Could Have Been The Applause And John's I'd Like To Thank You On Behalf Of The Group And Myself Speech But Thanks To Phil Spector Get Back Loretta Is Only Available On The SingleFor You Blue This Is One Where Phil Spector's Version Is Better The Slide Guitar From Both Versions Is Great But Spector Added That Wonderful Electric Piano Part That's Just The Cherry On The SundaeTeddy Boy While I Love The Song Teddy Boy I'm So Glad That Phil Spector Cut This From The Album Don't Get Me Wrong It's Not Terrible I Just Prefer The Version From McCartney Where John Isn't Fantasizing About His Alternate Life As A Square Dance Caller 😆Two Of Us Not Much Is Different Other Than A Line In The Middle Of The Song Is Flipped And Paul Says Take It Phil To John Right Before The Last Verse As A Nod To The Everly Brothers Not Necessarily Bad Things Just improved The Song On Spectors Version By Their AbsenceMaggie Mae Same Song Same Recording Three Different Discs But It's Actually One Of My Favorites So I'm Not Complaining But Some People WillDig It I For One Find This Four And A Half Minute Version Of Dig It Where The Classic Bit Comes In The Middle Of The Song Very Entertaining And Interesting And Am Going To Add It To My iPhones Let It Be Album But I Think I'm Safe In Assuming That Most Will listen To It Once And Run Screaming Back To Phil Spector's 53 Second Version Of This Song Which Is OK By Me Not Everyone Is Going To Want A Four And A Half Minute Version Of Dig ItLet It Be This Is The Glyn Johns Version With Billy Preston's Organ Solo I'll Stick With The Original Album's Electric Guitar Solo By George HarrisonThe Long And Winding Road I Know This Is The Version Paul McCartney Always Wanted And The Original Artists Wishes Should Be Respected However The Original Version With The Chorus And Strings Will Always Be My Favorite Sorry Paul No Disrespect IntendedGet Back (Reprise) Needed So We Don't Lose The Thank You On Behalf Of The Group And Myself SpeechDisc 5 Glyn Johns Let It Be EP Two Of The Songs Don't Let Me Down And Let It Be Were Mentioned On The Get Back Album However The First Two Songs Are Considered A Part Of Phil Spectors Let It Be Album So Let's Deal With Those TwoAcross The Universe Stick To Phil Spector's Version From Disc 1 This Is The Version Glyn Johns Mixed For John Lennon To Give The World Wild Life Fund With The Annoying Chipmunky VoicesI Me Mine Not Looking To Start A Fight But The Glyn Johns Version Of I Me Mine Is Great The Beatles Sing I Me Mine Through Once And It Ends When Phil Spector Got Hold Of It And Repeated The I Me Me Mine And Final Verse It Became A Bit Much
