Q: I bought 4 all 4 had black spots on the top of the handle what is that and how do you clear that?

Please don't worry about the black spots generated during this polishing process. You only need to use detergent to clean it.

Q: Are these actually a mirror finish? I want to keep one on my desk as a slightly less conspicuous alternative to an actual monitor/cubicle mirror.

I love these cups. They have a beautiful shiny finish. Even after my grandchildren have been using them they still look brand new. You can't see yourself in them though, because of the way they curve around. They would have to be flat to be able to serve as a mirror.

Q: Do these get hot on the outside when you use them for hot liquids? I want my kids to use them for tea/hot cocoa but don’t want them burning themselves

Yes I would say they get just as hot as any ceramic mug but we just put slightly cooler “hot” drinks in them for our kids and they’ve always been fine.

Q: is the bottom of the mug flat or recessed? a flat bottom will work better on a coffee warmer plate due to better contact.

The bottom has a 3/8" wide rim around the circumference with an approximately 1/16" (or less) deep flat recess in the middle.
